Learn More About Trout Fishing Gear

Experienced anglers and novices alike need the right trout fishing gear to make the big catch.

From the brook to the lake, select from a wide variety of trout spinning rods and reels that produce remarkable strength and sensitivity on the water or take the guesswork out of your selection with a trout rod and reel combo.

Get all the gear you need: Wade in with confidence in a pair of comfortable-fitting waders for trout fishing. Make the trophy catch with trout lures and flies, and pick up extra fishing line for your tackle box.

Pack up with durable tackle bags and find tools and accessories for your day outdoors. Get the quality you need from the top brands in the sport, like Berkeley, Simms and much more.

Spinning rods and reels are built from lightweight graphite and aluminum. These materials allow for optimal line movement and maximum casting efficiency.

Fluorocarbon, monofilament and braided fishing line are available for trout. Fishing line comes in translucent colors or shades of forest green to blend in with the environment. Choose fishing line that is abrasion-resistant and sensitive, so you can easily feel when a fish is biting.

Bait your trout with dough, soft bait or flies. Dough bait is available in fluorescent colors with a garlic scent that attracts trout. Soft bait is shaped like a worm or bug to imitate the trout's natural prey.

Beginning and experienced anglers alike can get insight into the sport with a variety of trout fishing books and DVDs.

For small streams with shallow water and thick foliage, use a light spinning rod that is 5'6" to 6'6" in length. Use two to four –pound light line that will not scare the trout. For a larger stream, use a heavier rod that is six to seven feet in length.

Move easy in the water with chest waders built with reinforced stitching for extra durability and protection from water leakage. Select waders that have a lightweight feel and stretchable fabrication for mobility in the water. Shop chest waders or durable wading boots.
