Cross training shoes are multi-faceted athletic footwear designed for a variety of activities. They provide basic comfort, cushion, stability and durability. They're not recommended for regular or long-distance runners, but they're great for gym-goers who participate in multiple workout routines.

The cushioning offered in cross training shoes is considered moderate, making them ideal for a variety of training options. Dense cushioning in primarily in the forefoot enhances stability without adding extra bulk.

Select between EVA midsoles and polyurethane midsole cushioning. EVA tends to be softer and compressed for added cushion but minimal durability. Polyurethane is denser and adds both stability and weight to your shoe.

Always ensure your cross training shoes are outfitted with an interior sock liner. Inner liners improve that fit and feel of your shoe. Your liner should be designed to wick perspiration away from feet.

Finally, inspect the outsoles of your new cross-training shoes to ensure they are designed with flexible grooves, which promote a natural-feeling stride.
