It's a good gift because it's adjustable so you don't have to get the size perfect. The idea seems to be that a kid can keep it for several seasons as she grows. But it turns out to be a helmet that will only fit properly for a short time anyway (when she's near the maximum size of the helmet), because the adjustment is around the crown of the head, while the part around the face is really big. Even when she tightened it all the way, the helmet still flopped around on her head. I actually returned this item because it didn't seem durable enough to last until my daughter would outgrow a helmet that's just her size. The foam seems like it will start to tear after a few wearings -- it's exposed foam, unlike other models that have a textile material covering the foam. I got a regular helmet instead (that we may have to replace in a year or two -- at which time it should still be good to hand down to a younger friend, instead of tossing in the trash).
