She is are true to size and break in very nice within one week. I purchased in advance of a trip and they were great for all the walking I did

Have lost count how many Escalante's I've gone through, and sometimes I feel like the fool for continuing to buy them. Going back to the 1st gen and now to the 4, fit has generally been great through the years for my needs, however have to give a big zero for durability. Acknowledging that lighter materials will wear quicker, this is ridiculous. The most recent pair of 4's and they look like this with maybe 50 miles on them? It's always the heel and the toe areas that start deteriorating. It's becoming hard for me to keep buying Altra when the uppers are shot long before even having to think about the midsole. This is how it starts, and by 100 miles the back of the heel is falling apart. I have one SmartWool version that interestingly didn't wear like that. Would think there would be a solution to this by now.

Horrible quality. The eyelet broke in less than 2 months and altra would not honor the warranty

Wide toe box, zero drop show. Not overly cushioned, not a rocker. Just a classic running shoe.

I have worn Altra shoes for many years. Love the wide toe box. The Escalante is light weight with just the right amount of cushioning.

After two foot surgeries this year I’ve spent a lot of time and money trying to find shoes that not only fit comfortably but don’t make my feet hurt or have sharp pains and these are it. Definitely run small but the size I chose was a snug but good fit.

My husband wore the previous model and really loved it. This one has a paper thin tongue, however, and the rest of the shoe felt cheap in comparison. We returned them.

Great multipurpose shoes for walking and for workouts

I bought these shoes a month ago to help with my plantar fasciitis. Love the wide toe box and secure fit. I now have two pairs! New to Altra shoes and I plan to stay.

Love these shoes. Recently moved from the forward experiences (now the experience flow I believe) and happy I did. Very natural feel and lightweight. I would buy again.

Great shoes. I've been on a search for shoes that have enough cushion for road running after getting tendinitis from running in too barefoot of a shoe. These feel great but don't feel like I'm running in stilts like the higher stack shoes. Really glad I found these.

I was so stoked to hear that Altra was finally going back to the original design of the Escalante. I loved this shoe right when I tried it on. Stake height is great, wide feel is amazing. But only 190 miles in to my marathon training and the tread has almost completely worn out and is falling off the sole. This adds significant setbacks to my training now that I have to find a new pair of shoes at such a low mileage. I was so excited for this return to quality to be disappointed with it falling apart.

I wasn't thrilled with any of the women's models/colors in wide width, so I decided to purchase the Men's Escalante 4 (mens regular is equivalent to womens wide width) instead. I wear a 10-10.5 wide in womens and went with the mens size 9 in black/white - perfect fit. Of course I wish the color was a bit more feminine, but at least there was a neutral option! I'm new to the wide toe box, zero drop but I'm absolutely in love with this shoe & hope I never have to go back to traditional tennis shoes. Zero-drop requires some adjustment time - my calves have been BURNING on walks, so I've had to slow it down. FYI I tried Flux footwear first, but they are ridiculously narrow, so I had to return (also beware their return policy). I wear my new altras for walking and strength training primarily, and I plan to wear them when I visit London for 10 days in October. So happy with my purchase overall. One critique is I'd like to see more wide-width options for women.
