Rains Inside

I've owned this tent for approximately 4 years and have taken it on many backpacking trips. I love how lightweight and compact it is which is wonderful for backpacking. However, because there are no vents in the rain fly, on every single trip no matter what the weather is, the rain fly collects absurd amounts of condensation. I'm talking in cold weather, my partner and I can be sweating and sticky from humidity in the tent because it becomes so thick with condensation. We have just put up with it until now because it's so lightweight and compact. Additionally, I surprisingly never experienced more than light sprinkles in this tent until this past trip. The tent is designed in such a way that, due to the angle of the sidewalls, when the rain fly is opened for exiting or entering the tent, if it's raining outside, whatever gear you have in the tent anywhere near the door gets rained on. The number of times my sleeping bag, sleeping pad, clothes, etc. got wet this past trip was absurd. The tent doesn't leak from rain per say, but it doesn't need to because of the amount of condensation and the poor design allowing rain in any time the fly is opened in inclement weather. Time to find a new tent!

Okay Tent, Would Not Buy Again

I have owned this tent for about 3 years with 45+ days in this tent. I love the size, weight, and easy set-up of this tent. Although I would not buy it again or recommend. The design requires 2 tent stakes for set-up of the tent and I have had issues getting it completely taught without folds/wrinkles in the tent floor. I used this tent for part of a field season doing science research in the desert and found the design did not handle well in the wind. It was hard to find the right placement for the tent stakes for the vestibules to minimize material shaking in the wind. The zippers on the fly often catch the fabric and have resulted in holes.

Great Family Backpacking Tent

Plenty of room for a double wide and a single pad. extra room at the feet for a bit of gear. I like the pockets and having 2 zips at the door is great. The two vestibules are roomy but a little awkward to get in and out of

Tricky Tent

I've owned this tent for 3 years and used it on multiple multi-day and multi-week trips across Alaska. I haven't sold it yet because it is so lightweight and the inside is designed very nicely - lots of pockets and comfortable for 2 people and a dog. I bought a footprint because the bottom is so thin. My main complaint about the tent is the fly design. It is very difficult to set the tent up so you 1) get enough ventilation to prevent condensation on the inside and 2) so the fly doesn't droop onto the main tent. I frequently wake up with wet feet with water that has soaked through my sleeping bag. After 3 years, I'm still troubleshooting how to set it up correctly in a variety of different backcountry campsites (forest/tundra/gravel). Mainly, I've almost doubled the amount of stakes I use, and added longer guylines especially on the lone, tiny connection point at the head of the tent. It would be really nice if the fly and main tent could use the same stake, but that has never resulted in a dry night. Lastly, I'm frustrated by the condensation problem because it seems so so easy for Big Agnes to solve - why not just add little flaps you can open to increase air flow? This was an expensive tent, and I'm constantly contemplating selling this. Wouldn't recommend to a friend.

Love This Tent...

I've used this tent for 2+ years now for both backpacking and Hunting in the backcountry. It's a palace when it's just me. It's great with two people plenty of space to keep our gear under the vestibule. Having two doors is so nice when you're sharing a tent. I got caught in a storm that lasted 2 days with a light consistent drizzle and the tent stayed dry. The floors is super thin- so you have play it safe where you set it up but I've got over 20 nights in the tent and there's only 2 tiny holes i've patched up with some tape. I'm surprised at how it still stays dry given the fabric is so thin. Condensation is manageable- there's little to none on the inside of the tent but the vestibule will be wet on both the inside and outside by morning. Just make sure none of your gear is touching and you'll be fine. The only reason for the "4" is the zippers. They get stuck a little on the vestibule. inconvenient sometimes, but not too bad. I own multiple light weight tents from teepee style tents to other freestanding tents and when weight matters- and I don't need a stove for winter camping this one is my first choice.

Camp On Durable Surfaces

I don't know how we're ever going to convince people to camp on durable surfaces if companies use promotional photos like the one for this tent.

I Would Buy This Tent Again.

I purchased the tent for a 10 night 11 day backpacking trip to Philmont Scout Ranch. The tent performed flawlessly. We used it for a two man tent. There was plenty of room for me and another grown male both with wide pads. We did have several nights of wind and one night of rain. The tent held up very well.

Do Not Buy This Tent

The tent works well when there is no wind, but is completely useless in windy conditions. The tent collapsed on the first windy day that I used it bikepacking in western Norway. Now, I always check the wind conditions before I use it. If there is even a hint of wind, I take another heavier, but much better tent with me. My recommendation is "do not buy this product".

Great Ul Tent For 2 People

Tent is amazingly light. Zippers are the biggest issue. The fly zipper loves to snag the rain flap/shield. BA needs to just move to a water proof zipper! The floor space is great for 2 people and all equipment inside the tent. The rear single pole does mean the tent is not as stable as the copper spur. I'd love to see BA incorporate trekking poles into this design either at the foot of the tent or at the ends of the brow pole. This would increase the stability of the tent. Interior pockets are great for stuffing things and keeping interior organized. We've had the tent in wind and rain without issues- when appropriately staked out.

Big Agnes Tents Are 10/10, And This One Is No Exception

It took TEN YEARS for me to finally be ready to upgrade my first Big Agnes tent, the Fly Creek UL2, and it wasn't because the first tent degraded, it was because my family grew and we needed more space! From bike packing across the US, to the Appalachian Trail, to countless backpacking trips along the way, these tents are the best. The Tiger Wall UL3 Solution Dye has major upgrades that I'm absolutely loving, from two side doors (vs the single door of the Fly Creek), to the integrated lighting system. My wife and I are obsessed. We set it up in our living room and camped in it as soon as it arrived, and have since taken it to the great outdoors a few times. It's light, it's sturdy, it's easy to set up, and it gives us ample space to chill on rainy days or to stretch out on tired nights.

Best Ultralight

I bought this for my daughters first backpacking trip. Three of us were able to fit, snugly but comfortably. I also use it for rafting. Two inflatable "river" pads fit perfectly! Super easy to set up and has just the right amount of extras. Pockets in all four corners and loops to hang things on. I've stayed dry in heavy rains as well. Would definitely recommend!

Would Absolutely Purchase Again

Needed a light tent for higher miles while section hiking the PCT. We wanted plenty of space without adding too much weight. Semi freestanding was a good compromise between trekking pole tent and freestanding. The mesh on the tent is not as durable as the Copper Spur, so being careful is in order. Same with zipping the door open or closed when the rain fly is wet: simply curling one finger around the other side of the zipper pull to lift the flap above the ziipper works fine if you go slowly. Space for the weight is incredible with this tent! Star gazing is excellent when weather permits leaving the rainfly off. One thing to be careful of is learning to stake the corners at the foot end of the tent so that you keep enough space between the rainfly and mesh when it gets wet, otherwise you will end up with a wet bag/quilt. But once you get the hang of it there is no problem.

Super Lightweight

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This tent is very light and I can't wait to take it backpacking. Easy to set up and very user friendly. It does seem a bit on the small size for a 3-person.

Lightweight But That’s It.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought this tent for a 10 day trip in the Northwest Territories and it was definitely not built for the conditions. 10 days of rain with a few drying spells here and there. Extremely lightweight but I think a little quality suffers to save on weight. I have never had problems with Big Agnes in the past so this one came as a shock. Also, this thing is bright. It was brighter inside than outside, so you’ll want to bring something to cover your eyes to sleep. Reached out to Big Agnes in regards to the weeping seams and they said I could apply new waterproofing to prevent it, but that didn’t sit well with me for a brand new tent.

Super Spacious Ul Tent!

This tent is DOPE! I've had it about 25 days and slept in it for 13 of those. It's really well designed, I love the storage pockets, attic, and pocket above the head space. I ran a thin paracord through the tabs on the ceiling for more clothes drying capacity. We've had gnarly rain, some sleet, and hot weather so far, this tent handles it all well, especially after shortening some of the guy lines. We've nicknamed our new tent the "reverse banana" yellow inside and white outside. :) It stays really warm in the cold and cool in the heat! Fits me, my partner and my dog (who takes up half the tent!) really well! We just hiked the High Line Trail in Utah and it was awesome to carry such a lightweight tent. The only con so far is the stuff sack is pretty fragile and already getting cut up. Also- if you're drying out the fly, DO NOT put rocks or anything firm on it, it will make micro tears, as the material is very thin.
