Really Nice

I’m really happy with the ATC Pilot. As the quote says, “ Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”, and I love how such a simple design works brilliantly to meet both safety and ease of use.

Easy To Use Belay Device

I bought this during a sale in 2025. I prefer it over the dual rope style belay devices as it is easier to feed the rope when belaying.

Smooth Lead Belaying

I'm loving the ATC Pilot for belaying lead climbs. It's smooth and intuitive and allows me to quickly feed out rope.

Love The Pilots!

I was sharing a pilot with my partner BUT sometimes I can't find it . . . SO i have my own now! I feel totally I control with this device and so much lighter to travel with

Best Gym Belay Device

Still my favorite gym belay device for top rope and lead climbing. It feeds rope as smooth as a Neox but without the moving parts making weird clicking noises. Also the best belay device for left handed belayers.

Adds Great Security

We have been having our kids belay us with the pilot (with someone backing them up). Adds a nice bit of security. We also use the guide ATC for multipitch and a gri gri. Hard to wrap my head around the idea that I own 3 belay devices, but the pilot has been a clutch part of bringing our kids into belaying starting around ages 8 and 11.

Best Device For Gym Climbing

So simple and easy to use! My favorite device for the gym leading or top roping. Lighter than a Neox with no moving parts and just as smooth!

Satisfied

I am satisfied with the quality of the device, works well!

Belay Device

This is the device I learned to belay with, and a perfect tool for climbing. It’s easy to use and prioritizes safety

Rope Feeds Very Well Accepts

Rope feeds very well accepts good range of rope lightweight easy to transport and assisted breaking makes easy to teach and use for beginners and experienced belayers

The Simplified Grigri

For a beginner climber like myself, this device is everything you’d ever need in a gym setting. It’s insanely simple to use, no moving parts so there’s no fear of failure or “using it wrong” and it inspires more confidence than some other more “simple” belay devices. If you’ve been rocking an older device I highly recommend making the upgrade and being impressed with the simplicity and fool-proofness of this device

Great For Beginners And Pro's

I don't mind carrying a grigri in the mountains, but if you want a lighter option, the pilot is great. Why would we NOT want a more secure device for belaying? It doesn't make sense. I also teach rock climbing and I really like the PILOT for top rope classes.

Excellent For Craggin'

Super smooth belay/lowering and light weight makes for an excellent auto-breaking belay device. Use with a larger carabiner (I use a rocklock) and it's wonderful for lead belaying and lowering - even with heavy people.

Easy To Use But Wish They Had More Color Options

I absolutely Love my ATC Pilot belay device. I use it constantly and it makes belaying so smooth. The only thing I wish is that it came in different colors, preferably something pastel.

Works Well And Is Extremely Light

This device works awesome and is super light compared to other products. The only downside I found is I have problems lowering the kids because of the amount of friction. It works best when there is a little bit of weight on the rope.
