The carbon running poles are very lightweight, but I have yet to use them b/c I’m having trouble changing the tips. I’ve seen a YouTube video someone posted, but I don’t have one of the required tools (I only have the pliers). I really want to change the tips out so I can use them. Grrrr… I suppose they will be just as good as the other Black Diamond poles that I have (carbon distance z), which are great.

These are definitely light, but I’ve now broken two poles and a tip during three separate training sessions. The first break was my fault - slipped on a descent and put all my dynamic weight on the pole which ended up snapping in two places. Then, on another run, the tip broke from getting wedged between two roots - which is not uncommon - so I was surprised that this led to breakage. I was able to buy and replace the tip, so I wasn’t that concerned. Then today I stumbled on a fairly flat trail and put a little extra weight on the pole which then snapped. That one really surprised me and made me think that these are just not sturdy enough for me. I’m 6”2, 195lb and was a x-c ski racer, so I’m not a novice with poles. But - maybe I’m just too big for these? Love running with poles and love how light these are - but I’m probably going to have to look at something else, unfortunately.

I love these poles for ultra running. They are very light and comfortable to use.

Designed by, and made for, butterflies, these poles are extremely lightweight. So far, they appear to be plenty sturdy, considering their use as intended. I calculate that, in certain terrain, using poles is 15% more efficient going up, and for the downhill it's like having a couple of shots of glucosamine at the ready.
