About This Item
SPECS:
Weight (with AAA batteries): 77-1/2 g
Weight (with rechargeable battery): 72 g
IPX Water Rating: 8
DESIGN & DETAILS:
Extremely waterproof design rated at IPX8, indicating the ability to rest submerged deep, deep in water, offering powerful enough survival skills that life will outlast being full encased in h2O far below the surface, ensuring strength way beyond rain-drenched and puddle-dropped safety
Shows battery percent left, allowing wearer to squeeze full battery life out before bothering to plug in again, and ensuring pitch blackness is constantly avoided, increasing safety levels
Turns on again at same brightness setting using memory, eliminating tiresome click-through of every brightness level available to get to comfortable lighting, allowing quick on-and-go when taking on bike rides and hikes, and enabling personalized feel by accommodating self-chosen light preference
Strong radiance from a small lens size, offering optical efficiency and 400 lumen brightness with several times more illumination than the average flashlight, easier for the eyes to handle compared to lumens that surpass the thousands while bright enough to beat hard-to-see flashlights
Settings include full strength in proximity and distance modes to see far away and get an idea of surroundings ahead, allowing wearer to know what direction to go in if in unfamiliar territory, or allowing more comfort in darkness, while proximity mode provides bright up-close view
Settings feature dimming, strobe, lock mode, and 3 red LED night-vision settings, offering an upgrade of night-seeing, featuring dimmer lights to avoid hurting eyes, and ensuring a notice-me option for safety, while allowing instant-quick transitioning between max. and dim brightness to lower shine without clicking through options when passing by people
Night vision features dimmer and strobe modes settable without switching through white lights, offering full-range night mode
Lock mode saves battery in pocket, designed to prevent accidental use

Black Diamond 400
Bought recently, been pleased with it so far. The full power white light is very bright, the red is not as bright or focused as i would have liked.

Great Lamp
This is the perfect size/weight that I was looking for both for casual travel, early morning and winter evening run/walking and anything else. My one gripe is learning the buttons. I need to reread the instructions as I can't seem to find the right settings or they change quickly. Otherwise, I think I'll be in good shape.

Button Size And Placement
Button is a pain to find with gloves, on freezing nights. The buttons should be larger.

Not Great
I have had and used a Spot 350 for years. After reading the reviews for the 400 it sounds like it has all the same problems as the 350 and costs more. Difficult on/off; impossible with gloves; easy to tap to undesired setting. If you can get the 350 on in the first place and on the setting you want the light works fine. But I've cussed it many a time trying to get there. I would never buy another one. That one reviewer thought this better than Petzel is a real blow to Petzel. Frankly, I have one from Walmart that is far easier to use.
