This Is Not A True Elliptical

This is not a true elliptical. I own a BowFlex Power Pro XTL Home Gym which I purchased almost twenty-five years ago. I take very good care of my gear and updated it with all of the recall issues it had. I am sixty-six years old and am thankful that I have no health issues. I use it for strength training not muscle build. I purchased a NordicTrack AudioStrider 990 about fourteen years ago. I loved that machine because I could hop on it and get a tough thirty-minute work-out or on the days I did not feel up to it, I could jump on it and have a nice brisk walk for an hour. It was smooth and easy on the knees. Unfortunately, it gave up the ghost June of this year. Since I have been so happy with my Power Pro, I decided to pick up the BowFlex Max Trainer M6 Elliptical. From all of the rave reviews, I figured this would be it for me. I purchased it on July 4, 2025 and it was delivered to my home. I followed the assembly directions explicitly and it is sturdy and solid. BUT, gone are the days that I can hop on and go for a one-hour brisk walk. Even on manual setting at the lowest resistance, this machine works the calf and quad muscles hard because it is an up and down motion rather than a forward and backward motion. It is a step machine. It is also much harder on the knees than a true elliptical. I get that there are people that want to hop on a machine and torture themselves every time. That is what this machine does. It is not versatile in the fashion as with the 990 that you can get on it and go for a nice long brisk walk. When you go to cool down, the rotation is very clunky. It is not smooth. It feels like you are constantly stepping into a hole with each rotation at a slow pace. I have no idea why this machine has received such rave reviews. I am stuck with it. It is a shame. BowFlex should market this as a hybrid step machine. I do not enjoy the work-out I get from it. I have wasted a lot of money.

Good Product, But Some Issues

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Initial installment was done well by the 3rd party technician. During initial use the machine made grinding noises, which I isolated to the cover on the left side of the machine as you stand on it. Removing the cover caused the grinding to stop. Reported to Bowflex and a new set of covers were delivered. After installation of the new cover(s) the grinding noise resumed. I removed the cover and replaced it with the cover plate from my Bowflex M5 and that resolved the grinding noise. The gliding wheel on the left leg was not centered properly on the guide rail which created a 'bump' when using the M6 which was uncomfortable. Since there is now way to adjust the centering of the wheel, I swapped the right and left legs, which relieved the issue. I would have considered requesting a replacement machine due to these issues but in reading the return policy I would have needed the original packaging. Since I had paid for delivery and installation, the installers took all of the packaging per their contract with Bowflex making a return impossible. Since I was unable to find a local store that carried Bowflex cross trainers I was unable to try it prior to purchasing. As I had owned an M5 for almost 8 years I had assumed the quality would be the same. To me the M5 is the better model based on my initial use of the M6.

This Machine Is A Great Cross Between A Stair Master And Eli

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We were looking for a machine that would get the heart rate up along with getting a similar workout like we do with the stair master at the gym.....and it does. Love the machine so far!
