Rated 3 out of 5 by from some pros and cons They are physically large and bulky. Quite long also. A bit uncomfortable doing curls because they bang together due to length as you are going up with them. Had 5-50 set of hex and they were more compact and quicker to use but these go up to 90 and that is way expensive with individual hex set. Loading and unloading of weights is sticky sometimes so you might load them and give a lift and have correct amount on one side but be pulling on 90 lbs. with the other as the whole set sticks together. Due to design and locking mechanism, the instructions are adamant about not dropping them. Seem okay for what I need,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Invest in the 1090 not the 552, you'll thank yourself later These Things Rock! I couldn't decide if I wanted the 552 or the 1090, so I got the 1090 in case I needed the excessive weight. I'm glad I did, I never thought about SHRUGS.Yes, they get stuck if they're not put back just the right way, but it only takes a second or two slide it back in. Yes, every once in a while you get the full 90lbs with one dumbell and need to wiggle the dial, but again that's fixed in a second, I've tried doing these on purpose and can't get it to act up. Those two problems are easily overlooked because of how easy it is to jump from one weight to another. It literally took you longer to read this sentence than it I took me to switch weights. They are a bit wide, but guess what... I don't need a curl bar anymore. ;)Another complaint I've heard is that the texture on the handle is sharp and uncomfortable. I on the other hand feel they're perfect. I've added a pic, they're not sharp at all. There are also flettened sides of the handle grip to help your knuckles secure them while in motion.I also thrilled I got the bowflex set instead of the square dumbells because I have the freedom to twist the set in my hands. I can't imagine how uncomfortable it would be to have my hand stuck in a metal box that edges that would bang my wrists. You can get full use of your new dumbells and your money's worth very quickly with the DVD set and meal plan Body Beast by Beach Body.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why do they call them dumb? These are smart! A smart invention, and a smart investment. I have 5-60 hex dumbbells. I out grew them for certain chest exercises and was looking for 65, 70, and 75. I accidental ran across the 1090s on Craigslist. Started researching and reading all the positive reviews. Contacted the seller and they were gone within hours. So I ordered new from Dick's for only slightly more than the used ones. I have only had them for a week and absolutely love them. My wife has used the 552s for several years and she never told me how great they were because she wanted to keep them a secret so I wouldn't take them. :o). I put the old hexes back on the rack and now have a ton more room for P90X. Only disappointment is the stand no longer has wheels but is still pictured with them on Bowflex's site. I read another review stating the casters could be purchased from a hardware store, so that's what I did. That was a great move because I can wheel them out of the way or wheel them right next to the station that I am working out at.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredibly convenient! I have the version that's about 1/2 this price and they are phenomenal! They take just a couple of seconds to change the weight on each from 2.5-52.5 lbs and the technology amazes me. I started a program called RIPT90 almost 3 wks ago and these are perfect! I'm a 51 yr old male in good cardio shape and was looking to add lean muscle and the program and these dumbbells fit the bill.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Affordable Way to Own Compete Dumbbell Set I've owned these dumbbells for about three weeks, so I can't speak to their longevity. They work exactly as advetised. Easy to switch between weights. At times can be minimally difficult to place back in holder, but a slight jiggle does the trick. I would much rather own a complete set of hex dumbbells, but at less than 1/3 the price, it's hard to beat. I purchased these on a 20% off sale plus free shipping, so my would be $750 price was about $475.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable, great value, love them Bought these from Dick's Sporting Goods and have been using them daily for nearly a year. Excellent value, replaces thousand dollars of individual dumbbells, takes up only 3 square feet of space, and more comfortable than solid steel dumbbells especially when resting them on your shoulder or chest. Recommend you also get the stand as well, since picking up from the floor can be a little daunting once you're in the heavy range.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from awesome I've been using these for about 6 months now, and I think they're great. I don't find them awkward or bulky. When I got them there was an issue with one of the locking mechanisms, but Bowflex sent me a replacement with no hassle. Kind of expensive, but a great buy if you don't have room for a whole rack of dumbbells. If you buy them, definitely consider getting the stand that holds them so you're not stuck picking them up off the floor (which I did for about a week, then got tired of it and bought the stand).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Buy Bought these for my Husband-- tried them out myself and they're great. It replaces so many sets of individual weights & is a space saver. Havent had any complaints or problems with them... Easy to switch the weight on each dumbbell. They're pretty heavy to move around, including the weights--(for a girl anyways)Overall Great Buy--pricey but worth it if you hate driving to the gym & will actually use them
