17s - New Favorites

The shoe is a bit narrower but this works fine if I use a 13 wide versus my 12.5 reg in a Glycerin Max. I also like the new Glycerin 22 in 13s and prefer the non GTS version. The new Ghost takes the foam and spring from the Glycerin and has much more bounce than the 16s have and the heel to toe flow is more stable, imo. Stability is improved, lighter, looks better from the side view. It is important to order up and possibly wider to get the room needed with this new shape. I like to alternate between Glycerin, Glycerin Max, Ghost 17 and Addiction (stability) depending on use - I rarely wear the same shoe all day. The Ghosts are a new favorite after having pushed the to the back of the closet - they are out now!

I am an over weight travel nurse that loves to hike. My wife and I travel all over my biggest problem, foot wear. I’ve tried all kinds of shoes, I also have Morten’s Neuroma that I’ve had unsuccessful cut out of my foot. So my feet hurt all the time. I came across this add on FB and was like what the heck let’s try these. The Ghost 17’s are amazing I can walk the farthest I’ve been able to in awhile. Now they don’t cure chronic foot pain so when I take them off and walk bare foot it still hurt but when they are on it’s like walking on pillows.

Longtime Ghost Runner And This Version Is One I Will Not Purchase Again.

I have been running in the Ghost model since they were in the low single digit version. I usually buy about 3-4 pairs of whatever is the current version every year as I run 2k+ miles every year. I expect some changes from one version to the next and look forward to trying the new versions when they come out. However, I have given the Ghost 17s enough runs and miles and won't be buying another pair. The biggest reason is the sole, they used a firmer material and changed the configuration of it. It feels rock hard now (particularly in the front 1/3rd of the shoe). This version even sounds different than the Ghost 16s when your foot lands on the same type of surface (I went outside and did a side by side comparison). I will keep trying to use them to see if they get better but after 100 or so miles I would say this is a failed upgrade.

My Ghost 17 are very noticeably the best Brooks shoes I’ve ever had. More cushioning seems to have been added. Extremely happy with the shoes!!!!! Go Brooks

Brooks you ruined my favorite running shoes. I've been wearing the ghost for years and this version is awful. The new flared heel does hold your foot in place. The new upper and tongue shaped is uncomfortable pinches, rubs. The change in heel to toe drop is noticeable. After 7 years in the Ghost, I am now going to look for a new brand because the Brooks Ghost is now unwearable.
