This buff merino wool headwear fits the bill because, while light in weight, it's warm because made of merino wool. It can also be used as a neck warmer, or pulled up over the mouth for further warmth -- necessary on cold winter days in Michigan. Also important, it' cool enough that he would actually use it!

Versatile Wool Accessory.
