Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good backpack. The backpack was designed by someone who knows something about mountain biking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfection My first gen H.A.W.G. finally started to leave me wanting so I started hunting for my next hydration pack. I cross shopped everything. Ultimately it was between the Osprey Raptor and this. The LR bladder is a game changer. I don't notice this pack on my back when I ride - at all. I am a bit of a sweat-er by nature and this pack keeps me surprisingly fresh. Recently rode Gooseberry Mesa with this. Held the perfect amount of ice and water. Increased flow from the hose makes it easier to hydrate when you're sucking wind. I've never been let down by Camelbak quality - it's a "buy it for life" kind of product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Comfortable Pack but resevoir is lacking I bought this pack a couple of months ago for mountain biking, dirt bike riding and hiking. Although I have worn-out a few packs over the last 25+ years, this is my first Camelbak and had high expectations. The pack fits well, is comfortable to wear, vents sweat away from my back, and I can easily swing the pack around to the front when I'm stopped on the trail. Looks sturdy and should last a long time. Time will tell. However, the reservoir is poorly designed. It is difficult to get in and out, it is not compatible with the built in loops to hold it upright in the pack, and it quickly bunches up which restricts water flow. The interior compartments are not well thought out. No interior hooks for keys, and the pockets allow everything to fall to the bottom - no segmentation - which causes problems with the reservoir. Although a helmet has not fallen out, the exterior clips for a bicycle helmet don't seem trustworthy. Why not attach the rain fly to the pack. It is too easy to lose. The cinch straps to hold the bladder in place were not connected. I had to thread them through. Not a trivial task because the loops sewn into the end of the straps bunches up the webbing to triple normal thickness and made it very difficult to force the webbing through the plastic belt openings. I later found another pack on the shelf and unlike mine, it was correctly assembled.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bad design I've never had a problem with the quality of a Camelback product but again, the design should have been thought out a little better. I use Camelbaks for endurance mountain bike races. I need hydration on demand with no work and I need to be able to refill or swap out bladders quickly. I can do neither with this new design. The bladder sits on the bottom of a tall compartment, without suspension. The tube connector gets folded over, as does the tube. This restricts the flow, sometimes cutting it off completely. It can take a lot of work to get a few sips. The bag is not easily replaced. A half zippered compartment makes the bag difficult to get in and out. That problem is compounded if other compartments are full. The new Crux bladder is difficult to stuff into the M.U.L.E. because the bladder wants to layout wider than the pack. The compartment behind the bladder is a single compartment. This allows the contents to fall all the way down, behind the bladder. This makes the above problems even worse. The new tube design with a 45 degree angle is just dumb compared to the old 90. I thought this bag might have worked great for me and my sport with the mesh construction and air flow design but I think I'll return it and look at other options.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Reservoir is awful, pack is great Been using the Mule LR for a few months now, and overall I dig the pack. However the reservoir supplied with the pack was less than useful. I ended up swapping the reservoir from my old Hawg, and it works just fine. I've even gone back to the original reservoir to give it another shot and I'm just not impressed. It is rather difficult to get the reservoir in place, and once in place it is harder to refill than the older style reservoirs (I like refilling without having to take the reservoir out of the pack if possible). The new reservoir is just not a good fit in this particular pack.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad design, poorly manufactured!! Coming off a 5 year old M.U.L.E. NV I was expecting better, instead I'm thoroughly disappointed. My old M.U.L.E. finally have up the ghost so I thought I'd replace it with the latest version. The new LR model is not very well thought out to say the least. Firstly the bladder is awkward to get in place and on my second ride one of the hose retaining straps pulled out of the stitching. Putting items in the pack is like putting them in a garbage bag, everything falls to the bottom. This only makes installing the bladder harder as it's fighting all your stuff sitting at the bottom of the pack. Our would be better served to have the bladder pocket separated under the storage pockets. The old NV had a much better storage layout with smaller pockets on the front. The magnetic hose clip is ok, but the bit that stays on the tube constantly moves so everytime I clip in my hose I have to pull the hose through it to get it back in the right place. Finally the adjustability of the straps is no good. I'm 176cm and 63kg and I can't do the waist straps tight enough, I might be able to if I cut the elastic loops off that are for holding the excess strap length. I'd also like to tighten the shoulder straps more, but then my helmet hits the top of the pack when descending. I've been really let down by this purchase, wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Fitting Hydo Pack I got the MULE LR 15 a couple of months and it has been the best hydration packs I've owned. The 3 liters of holding capacity is just perfect for a full morning or afternoon ride for my dog and me. I can load everything in it I need for the trail, without to much excess pack space left over. The bladder sits low and centered in the pack making the rest of the backpack sit securely through fast and rough terrain.
