Just Okay

I’ve had my sidekick for two years and the whole bottom is rusted completely through. Meanwhile it’s been under a cover all of its life. It’s a great design but needs a better material if you live in any kind of humidity. Unfortunately this is my first camp chef product of many I own that I am not happy with.

Swissarmy Knife Of Grills!

Loving the new camp chef grill with sidekick.. I've had a 4burner gas grill for 7years and was finding myself bored with what I could grill, this new pellet grill gives me the flexibility to slow cook or fast cook, and I don't give up the be edits of gas grills like steering with the side kick.. it was worth every penny and highly recommend

Sidekick, Perfect Addition To My Woodwind Grill.

This came with my Woodwind grill. I cannot be happier with the stove itself or the quality of the griddle. I have cooked many breakfasts on the griddle to the delight of all those that ate. The single burner has been ideal for frying and general cooking when I don't want to heat up the kitchen or simple enjoy outdoor cooking.

Makes An Already Terrific Pellet Grill Much More!

Purchased four years ago . Use it weekly . Pretty much replaced my standard propane grill with it. I typically cook for two to four people . Also the griddle feature is terrific . My one complaint is that it is now rusted badly in the interior. I live in Central Texas so there is no salt and minimal rain. Guessing I have to order a replacement now.

Rustout

Two years old and burner needs replacing, grill is rusty and flaking badly, will need replacing divert soon. Don’t know why this is happening so soon, unit has always been covered when not in use. Not happy

Great Addition

First use was to sear venison steaks. This add-on is a game changer for my Woodwind Pro. Got it up to 550° before putting the steaks on, great grill marks, seared in juices.

Quality Product.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Good quality and fits very on the sidekick. Already seasoned and should last the lifetime of the grill so long as you take care of it. Don't recommend keeping it outside.

Good Addition To A Great Pellet Grill

Good - Easy install. Just the right size for a small family. Not so good - You have to really watch your temp because it’ll flare up and send the temp soaring. This unit could really use some sort of drip tray to catch any juices or grease while cooking. I clean the grill/sear box and still have a puddle on the patio.

All In One Side Kick

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great overall product. Quality built, easy to put together and works!

Lasted Less Then Three Years

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Was an awesome cooker. In less than 3 years it has rusted away. Replacement parts are not worth the repairs. For a grill that cost 300. USD.

So Fun, So Versatile

I’ve been using this for a few months now, and love it. It is folded into my cooking routines as much as using my regular stove is, in other words it is not a novelty but now an essential element. The larger surface area and higher heat allows for quick searing of way more food than would be manageable on a traditional 8-12” skillet, not to mention how much bringing the cooking process outdoors keeps your kitchen free of excess steam, smoke, oil splatter, etc. I also routinely remove the griddle top to cook with my flat bottomed wok and the high heat allows for rapid wok style cooking. It’s not at the level of a true wok burner but it’s most of the way there, and far better than most indoor home ranges. We just bought the 14” pizza oven attachment and that rules, too! It opens up the possibility for great flat breads, pizzas, and I’m going to experiment with tandoori style cooking. And again, I love that it’s all outdoors. No sacrifice in kitchen space, keeps the heat, gas, smells, smoke, oil, etc. all outside. It’s such a simple yet versatile solution: a single big powerful burner, and it’s outside.

Love It, However...2 Problems

I purchased this unit with the 24" Pro. The Pro is what we've been needing in the pellet stove market for years. The smoke box is IT! Now the sidekick... I have tried no less then 5 different aluminum grease catch inserts. They fit, however the hole in the griddle isn't lined up and the grease falls behind the insert. Additionally, the unit arrived with a none working ignitor. I use my propane torch. An electric battery style ignitor is only a few more dimes. My Pro arrived to two major dents in the side. It appears the the pellet burner grease catch was unsecured and struck the unit from the inside. It sucks to get such a nice unit and you need to hammer dent's out. I may just return it.

Hot Hot

This Sidekick Sear gets the searing done. Only bad thing is no matter how much you clean and condition grill grates rust

This Thing Gets Hot

I replaced an older version of the sidekick with this after it rusted out multiple time. The jury is out on how this will fare from that standpoint. Initial impressions: this is built to sear. It "can" grill but that's not its strong suit. It gives one heck of a sear on steaks. I had multiple compliments from guests regarding the quality of the sear, and I agree it was far better than its predecessor (which was pretty good itself). Anything that requires lower temp cooking will be a bit trickier and runs the risk of burning if used for more than just a reverse sear. Also this runs insanely hot when on high, so be sure to take precautions to use away from structures. The manual is full of propane liability butt-covering, but more cautionary statements about the heat this thing generates would've been helpful.

Significant Upgrade From Original Searbox

Little difficulty removing older model from Woodwind pellet grill and attaching new unit. Once that was done, WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!! Heat generated is major upgrade and this certainly makes food better when doing "reverse sear" after smoking. I have owned a few other Nationally marketed pellet grills, but CampChef has shown itself to be the best....
