[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased the Magnum 5 about two weeks ago and will be using it for the first time tomorrow. The product came neatly packaged and was a breeze to install on my same base plate and swivel that I have been using for years on my Cannon Uni-Troll. Thank you for keeping things consistent throughout the line of accessories, thus eliminating the need to make additional purchases. My only complaint about the product is it would have been really nice to have a list of "What's in the box". This may be a Cabelas issue but when ordering on line the "you may be also interested in" box showed the Cannon Battery End Cable. Not being able to find anywhere on the Cannon website what all came with the product and being in a tight window from receiving to use I ordered the cable. As it turns out, the Magnum 5 did have the required battery end cable so I spent money I didn't need to spend. Looking forward to seeing how the unit works at Sekiu salmon fishing this week.

Worth Every Penny!

Big Upgrade Over My Old Downrigger

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought to replace a 25 year old Magnum 10A. This new one is way faster. All the features worked well. It rode in the rain for 270 miles, bouncing around, then performed well in 3’ Erie waves. The depth display fogged up for a bit. The 30 amp fuse blew but that was a boat and weather issue. Thankfully I installed the fuse, like the manual says.

Should Of Bought With Swivel Base/key Lock

First time I used it the cable broke at 100 feet, my my depth counter now starts at 100, it would seem to me the cable would not break before something else gave way, how do you replace the cable reel and reset the count. I installed a new weight using wire stops which did not hold and lost another weight. Can I buy the cable holder that came with the unit?

Already Defective When I Received It.

The downrigger was defective when I received it. When I went to assemble it the clutch wasn't working, and I found pieces of loose black plastic in the area where the knob attaches. I suspect it had been returned as defective by a previous customer, and Cannon reboxed it without repair and shipped it out. I tried calling for customer support around 5:20 on a Friday evening and got a message that they weren't open until Monday. So much for using it on a fishing trip I was taking over the weekend.

Cannon Mag 5

I was not too happy in that I did not get a swivel base with this product per what was listed in the parts list. I also could not connect the sleeve used to accommodate the insert used for the pulley. The boom end was tapered. Luckily I was able to get a new boom from the authorized dealer (Bay Distributing). I also had difficulty with the sleeve that the hook gets inserted into at the end of the boom next to the motor. I could not get the screw all the way through to connect to the boom. Again Bay Distributing was able to get it corrected. I think I should be compensated given my difficulties with the product coming right out of the box. I look forward to your response.
