Rated 5 out of 5 by from Honestly love this thing I bought it to store my kayak to keep it in the garage off the floor. Installation was incredibly easy and it works smoothly. It's rated to 100 lbs I believe, and I put some serious tension on it but it didn't budge, so it lives up to its word. One huge thing that I didn't even consider when I bought it is the ability to work on my kayak while standing up, keeping my kayak just below chest level. It has SAVED my back with all the work I've done on her lately. As you can see in my pictures, it can lift very high, and is very stable at half-mast. At its highest I can almost comfortably walk under it without crouching and my ceiling is around 9'. Bottom line, if you're considering getting a hoist, get one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Basic- Straightforward Installation I had no difficulty following the written installation directions. Be sure to pay attention to the diagrams. Know that at its highest point the kayak still hangs down about 35" from the ceiling.Don't fret if your joists don't run in the direction you'd like to hang your boat- simply fasten a 2"x 4" to your joists (with lag bolts) in the direction you want to hang your kayak. Then bolt your pulley brackets to the 2x4. I'm very happy with the product, although I wish the rope was of better quality. I could imagine it fraying to the point of having to replace it one day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from CargoLoc Garage Hoist Works EXCELLENT!! Shipped out timely. Arrived timely. Instructions were easy to follow and the pictures aided when I needed further direction. I am NOT a handy man by any stretch, so when I say this was easily installed, I mean easy for most everyone. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this product!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Good, Space-Saving Solution for Kayak/Canoe Storage My wife and I bought two kayaks recently, without considering how we might store them. When you read dimensions as 10 feet (3 meters) long, you may not realize just how big that really is in a typical garage. We didn't want to just lean the boats against the house or put them on saw horses, so we bought the CargoLoc Garage Hoists. In short, they work pretty well, but there are some things you should consider, especially if you're not too handy. *First, the installation instructions could be better. I figured it all out, but it took some thinking. The drawings are quite good, which helped, but the written instructions are a bit hard to follow. In one instruction, it tells you to make a loop of the rope. Now, to most people, this makes you think that the loop will somehow be looped over a pulley. Not true. It's the two-rope combo that you pull on to raise the kayaks. The instructions are clear, however, about making sure you bolt the pulley assemblies to a joist. Absolutely do that, or you will likely have a serious accident. Just bolting to sheet rock on the ceiling will NOT be strong enough. *Second, the straps that go around the kayaks have several loops in them that have no explanation. I wasn't sure if paddles were supposed to be somehow secured there, or something else. It turns out, they are sizing loops so the straps can be used with different width boats.*Third, the straps have a tendency to slip toward the pointy ends of the boats as you lift. Not a big deal, EXCEPT if the ropes the kayak hangs on get angled too much from perfect vertical, it affects the locking mechanisms, and once you have the boats lifted you may have a lot of trouble getting the rope locking mechanisms to release when you want to lower the boats. This can be solved by buying some strapping to strap the hanging straps together at perfect vertical, or by climbing a ladder to release the locking mechanisms with your fingers as someone else holds the rope to lower the boat.*Fourth, this is probably pretty obvious to most, but FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS. It is really important that the pulley mechanisms be installed in the correct directions, and that the ropes are routed through the pulleys properly. I made a few mistakes and it took me some time, squinting at the drawings, to figure out what I'd done wrong.*But overall, I'd give this product 4 stars. It works pretty well, and once the boats are lifted to the rafters, they stay there. The parts are well-made, and the design makes sense. If the hoist is installed correctly, the cleats to tie the excess rope to do not have to hold any weight.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from CargoLoc Garage Hoist Installation was easy, but because I have a finished ceiling I loose out on a few inches of height/clearance, not the biggest deal but they should make a flush mount kit. The straps the supply could also be adjustable. This does make winter storage easy. I added my own extra safety straps for long term storage.
