Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best hockey skates for the price I bought the skates a couple of weeks ago after I went ice skating for the first time I used them to go public skating all the time I save $7 on rentals every time the skates virtually paid themselves off in no time they are great quality for the price the only difference between $70 hockey skates and $300 is your personal level of play i would recommend for public skating or practice hockey skates

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Blades for the Occasional Skater We took our kids skating for the first time just before Christmas and they fell in love with it. Although I played some hockey in my teens, I hadn't laced up skates in over 30 years. After going to a few open skates, we signed up the kids for 8 weeks of lessons and I got my wife and me some skates (not gonna just sit there and let them have all the fun). First things first, these boots are thermal molds which means they can be heated and shaped for your foot. Lots of how-to videos on YouTube about baking skates at home (watch them before doing anything) and I have to say DO IT. it doesn't hurt the skates and molds the skate to your foot quite nicely, diminishing break-in time to, well, nothing (if you are uncomfortable doing this yourself, they can heat mold them in a shop for you, but it really is easy to do at home). Also, get the blades sharpened (they do not come sharpened).I do not know how aggressive you can be with these skates, but they are pretty comfortable just skating around in an open skate, okay stiffness, responsive but forgiving (I am 6'2", 230#, and they fit well on my ankles), I no longer have the skill set to be too demanding on skates and these seem to have more than enough room for me to get better. The boots are Canadian sizes. I have a very high arch, so regular shoes are 9.5 R, but I fit 9 wides fine. I bought 8.0 and after baking them, they fit relatively well.Been out on them a couple of times now and am very happy with them. For the price, they seem to be a good place to start

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Double check services at your store before buying Dick's advertises they'll sharpen your skates for free with purchase, but no store in the D.C., Baltimore, MD area sharpen skates...really! Dick's should discount your purchase if a nearby store doesn't provide the service. Now I have to pay someone what Dick's said they'd do for free.
