Rated 4 out of 5 by from Don't Fry Bacon Naked!! This is a very decent fire starter. I bought 5 different types for testing and at this point all of them including this one have worked very well. I will be doing tests in other environment/weather conditions but so far this one as well as the others have done well. Lights immediately with a match/lighter but does take a little bit with a flint striker but is certainly not impossible. My first base test was in my shop where there was no wind, humidity was 22 percent and temperature was 77 degrees Fahrenheit (35C). Outside conditions were 98F with 76 percent humidity (Southern Louisiana).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding results for such a small item I like these because they're small and slender, making them easier to pack for camping than some of those chunkier, blockier fire starters out there. And wow, did they work! They're slightly sticky because they're so full of inflammable tar of some type. Here's what happened when I used them: I laid a heavy log right on the ground, and leaned two of these sticks at an angle against it. I covered those with a tipi of other split logs. Kindling? Nope. Tinder? Nope. Just two firestarter sticks and full-size fuel. I entered a long lighter, pulled the trigger, and the sticks burned. They lit with a gentle flame, and didn't require me to hold the lighter to them for more than about 5 seconds. That was it. It lit the campfire. No offensive odors, no false starts, no dangerous combustion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value and Use I actually broke these in half and store them in a waterproof cell phone hard case that I also got at Dick's. I keep them with a pack of waterpoof matches in my backpack for when I'm out in the woods on SAR missions and training. We had our bivouac training a few weekends ago and part of the training is to start your own fire, these worked like a charm, used half of one at the base of my wood pile and had a lovely fire going in a matter of a couple of minutes or less. Excellent value and I will always keep some in my pack:)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from lazy and lifesaver in one These sticks are the best, a 1/2 stick will light a campfire and weigh nothing. Two sticks will actually ignite small logs in my wood -burning stove. These sticks lite instantly and burn intensely and plenty long enough to get a fire started. These are on my "must" list when II put the backpack on, or when I'm building a fire in the wood-burning stove. Why bother starting with tiny twigs, pencil twigs, finger twigs. two-finger twigs, wrist size logs? Throw 2 fire sticks down and move directly to wrist size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Backpack Firestarter I bought this with a gift card i received and they work great so far. I break them in half to double my quantity but you can use a whole one if you want. Mine started right up on a cold windy day and got a nice twig fire going. I totally reccomend for hiking or camping

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great accessory I bought this as a inexpensive accessory to try out. It works fantastic. Some notes:If your trying to light it with just a match it wont go (even a long burning match), but if you simply cut into it, make a small pile of "fluff" from the inside, put the match to that, the fluff will go up in flames, and is powerful enough to get the main stick to burn. Also for curiosity sakes, it says water resistant, so I soaked a piece of the stick (I cut each stick into 7 smaller pieces, which is still more than enough to get a fire going) for over 1 hr, completely submerged to simulate a leaky zip-lock bag, that rather than protecting from water, ended up being a pool of it. Good news, same trick, cut into the center, you can find dry fluff, light the fluff, and even a wet stick will burn. Great product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fire sticks I didn't want to add any weight but these are small enough and light enough that it was ok. Glad bought them, very useful when you are hiking/backpacking and it rains most of the time.
