Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm in MN Winter I have a 17 yr old 3-in-1 whirly-gig (or whatever the name is). But I sweat like crazy during short trips through the grocery store or in my 10 minute drive to work. I bought the Gate Racer last week. No discomfort indoors. I went out in -15F tonight, with wind. I was plenty warm. If I planned on being out for hours in that temp (which I wouldn't), I'd wear the old 3-1. But this will be my daily MN Winter jacket, which is what I wanted, and it was within my budget. I wish there was an inside pocket for my wallet, reading or sun glasses. I'll use the exterior zipped chest pocket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than just a shell I was surprised how much more than a shell jacket this is: the fleece lining fabric is in a kind of cell pattern, not super thick but well bonded to the outer jacket and looks like it will be more durable and less likely to pill than I had expected. The jacket is a little longer in length than other soft shells; and the hood is detachable but doesn't look like it is at first glance (which I don't think is mentioned on the product descritption). It is roomy around the shoulders and chest, and long on the sleeve so we chose a size down from usual and it fits well for someone who is usually finds chest and shoulders tight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Purchase I bought this for my boyfriend for Christmas. His job requires him to be outside and I knew with the El Niño storm coming he'd need a good jacket. As soon as he open the package he was ecstatic. The inside and outside material is soft allowing it to be comfortable and movable. It is not heavy or bulky. He loves the chest pocket for easy access to his cellphone. The Velcro wrists and drawstring waist block out any wind from getting in. The overall look is nice, clean and durable. Before the storm he was looking for any excuse to wear the jacket. This is the guy who wears shorts all year through unless it rains and we haven't had that until this week. We are both completely happy with this purchase!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost Perfect This jacket is made with very nice materials, which is what you can expect from Columbia products. Do not expect to use this jacket as a sole winter jacket for those living in northern states, such as WI. On a particularly cold day, I pair this with a hoodie underneath and am usually warm enough. However, if worn alone as the sole source of warmth, the cold air can really be felt through the arms, as there is less padding there. Of course, less padding throughout means a lighter jacket- which is nice. Overall, this is a great jacket to pair with either a long sleeve shirt or a sweatshirt. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Has a lot of features. First off I got a medium for my husband and it looked huge on me and we are almost the same size so I exchanged right away for a small and although it is a bit smaller it still looks a bit big. Im hoping it will fit him because they dont carry a XS for some reason. It does look a little puffy too but that part should be ok because it has for him to adjust the waist and neck area. It does have a detachable hood which is a plus! it doesnt say in the description but it does. Its also pretty long too, goes past the butt. All in all the quality is good, its not heavy either! For reference my husband is 5’5 & 134 pounds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket at this price point I was a bit skeptical when I first received this jacket because I thought it was too thin. But it completely proved me wrong. It is wind proof and very water resistant. I wore it to a outdoor car wash and wore it while I washed my car in mid winter and it kept me warm and dry. I didn’t like that it didn’t have inside chest pockets but I got over it quickly. The zipper goes up your mouth to keep the draft out. A great jacket and I would definitely recommend to anyone who doesn’t want to spend $200 on a North Face. Fits a little loose I’m 5’10 220lbs and I got the Large. Maybe order one size down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thin, light and warm I purchased this jacket approximately 2 months ago and have used it during this rather cold winter. On normal cold days in the upper 20's - 30's, the jacket is well insulated. However, on the very cold days lower than the mid 20's, it would be a good idea to use a sweater or sweatshirt. It would be great if the jacket was a few inches longer to cover your entire bottom. Otherwise, it's a great, durable jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm enough for Michigan I just received this and Michigan is just ramping up for winter weather. So far it has been more than warm for late Fall and based on that I feel it will stack up nicely to the coming snow. The jacket has a nice soft feel to it as it is water resistant and not waterproof, which in a way I wish it was. The sleeve length is good on it but it is just a tad small across the torso from other XL size jackets I've had. Overall I'm very happy with the jacket and look forward to many years of wear!
