[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was on a quest to find a waterproof, cushioned hiking shoe for Torres del Paine “O” backpacking trek The final pairs were from Columbia and Hoka Speedgoat. The Peakfreak was my final choice as I found that the cushioning level matched that of Hoka, without the bulk. I completed the trek and was compelled to write this review as the Peakfreak surpassed my expectations. The trek was around 70 miles with unforgiving terrain. This shoe softened the impact on my low back and foot pads, yet was sturdy for the uneven trail. We hiked through snow, rivers, mud and my feet remained dry. The soles gripped every rock and slippery root. My Peakfreaks kept me upright while others were slipping and losing traction. Oh, and no blisters and no break-in necessary. The only recommendation is to order 1/2 size up. I’m a true 9 1/2 and my toes were a bit crammed. I bought a size 10 and it fit perfectly.
