Rated 3 out of 5 by from Doesn't Hold Much Cargo I've always adored Columbia shorts, but sorry folks, not this pair of shorts. I'll wait until Columbia gets it together and brings back shorts with decent pockets. ALL of the pockets are WAAAY too small compared to other older models of women's Columbia shorts I still currently own. The side slash pockets are so short that when I put a bit of change in the pocket and sit down, it falls out. The zip cargo pocket is nearly useless. It's about the size of a credit card. Sheesh. A woman I know who does alterations and tailoring tells me that to cut costs clothing manufacturers, have reduced the size of their pockets to save on the cost of the lining material.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disappointed in fit I have many Columbia shorts/pants and I'm disappointed that they all fit differently. I am 5'7" and 135 and usually wear a 6. My long hiking pants are a 8 and my cotton Columbia shorts are size Med but the sandy river shorts cut short in the inseam even though they claim to be a 6 inseam. I have other waterproof hiking ones that fit very loose in the Med and are much longer even though they say the are 6 inseam. It would be great if they all had a style name or number so I can figure out which ones work and which ones do not. It's annoying to have to return items so often. The quality seem very nice but since I sent them back, I can not rate the wear and tear of the shorts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Size 16, XL - bought the XXL Normally, I wear a size 16, XL but I bought the XXL in this size since my measurements were on the edge for an XL (39" waist and 48" hips). I hated having to buy an XXL, but I do enjoy how it fits - roomy. I have an extra inch of room in the waist without the elastic expanding. I still have a butt in the back. The shorts are slightly flared out at the bottom. They end about an 1 inch above my knee. I am able to walk without the short bunching up between my legs as often. The shorts washed well, They have a nylon parachute material feel to them. I assume it will help them dry faster. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best again I have been wearing Columbia active wear shorts for 15 years. I am STILL using 2 pairs I bought in 1997.They are faded but still wonderful. I have 3 others that are at least 7 yrs. old & still tip top. I hope my new ones wear as well. THANK YOU for carrying 1X etc. Just becasue I am not thin doesn't mean I do nothing. I will be buying again soon. The only reason there was a time gap is that no one carries your plus size shorts in the Trinity, Fl. area. I was told you no longer made the plus size. Finally, I turned to the internet & voila- there they were!!! I am so thrilled. Thanks again! E L

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sandy River Cargo Shorts I purchased three pairs of these at least five years ago and they are wonderful. The fit is perfect. I just bought the newer version and was disappointed. The older shorts had a belt that was an integral part of the shorts whereas the new ones have a belt I discarded as it is too long and a distraction. Having read the reviews I bought a size larger and found that the legs are a bit wide but I would rather have a loose fit. Even with a larger size that hangs a bit lower, they are still an inch shorter than my older shorts. I love the material and for this reason alone, I would continue to purchase, but the cut and the quality are not as good as in the past.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from leg inseam length too short I had purchased a similar pair of Sandy River Cargo Shorts about 15 years ago and they are starting to show their age and need to be replaces. (I'm the same size as 15 years ago!) I was hoping the Sandy River Cargo Shorts were going to be a good replacement for the older shorts I have, but the leg inseam length of 6 inches is too short. They do not measure 6 inches. The older pair of shorts I had purchased have a leg inseam length of 8 or 9 inches. I hope Columbia will make the Sandy River Cargo Shorts in a longer leg inseam length of 8 inches. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Product I have worn my first pairs (8) for about 2 years now. Some are just starting to show wear. Only got new because I needed to go down a size. Living in the south they are a big advantage-light, dry quickly and haven't faded. They work well for all my activities (hiking, cycling, kayaking, walking) in many different weather and trail conditions. The only thing I don't like about them is the pockets. I wish their were two zipper pockets that are a bit bigger and deeper front pockets. I would like to thank Columbia for making plus size clothing. If you are a plus size there is not a lot out there to help you look good and be active. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these shorts At 66, I don't wear shorts very often but needed some for traveling. I generally take hand washable clothes (nylon, polyester) and have a big collection of Columbia pants and shirts. I am normally a size 6 but got these in a medium since Columbia pants, like the anytime outdoors, sometimes run small. These are very roomy--I can pull them on without using the zipper but do not need the belt. They are exceedingly comfortable and do not pull when sitting, bending, or moving around. The pockets are a good size for carrying a phone and dog treats. Even the 6" inseam is perfect, and the length hits my legs at a good point. I need to find more in basic colors since I am not a bright red or blue person in pants.
