Great Pickup Experience, Poor Checkout Service

I drove from Escondido to Carmel Mountain because this location was the only one that had the specific Crocs my son wanted for his birthday. We also decided to shop in-store and purchase additional items. At checkout, I was helped by an older cashier named Janet. When she asked for my phone number, it wasn’t pulling up in the system, so I offered to open the app so she could scan my barcode. She became visibly annoyed, huffed, and said, “You have to put your phone number in the machine, so do you have a phone number or not?” I did, and I entered it again, but it still didn’t come up. Her tone and attitude were unnecessarily rude and unprofessional, especially since there was no line and no reason to rush. She continued making rude comments, acted irritated, and even laughed afterward, which felt very disrespectful. I remained calm and respectful the entire time. After that, she sent us to register 5 for our online pickup, and the gentleman who helped us there was excellent — kind, patient, smiling, and very professional. That part of the experience was great. Customer service matters. I work in the medical field and deal with people daily, and patience and respect are essential in any customer-facing job. Janet’s behavior was completely uncalled for, and it really affected what should’ve been a positive birthday shopping experience.
