Pretty Sweet Boot

Pros; waterproof, nice rubber rand, easy to get into, and grippy hard sole good on rock not so much on ice. cons; tongues will not stay centered on boot, top eyelet for speed lace undersized so lace comes off while trying to lace up, needs a pull on loop. These complaints are minor, and this is a great boot so far.

Boots Built For Outdoor Adventures

I don’t wear the boots for work or concrete urban hiking. I couldn’t be happier with these Danner Crater Rim boots. Good Boot.
I bought a pair of these last year and I have enjoyed wearing them. They were not hard to break in. I wore these for two weeks in Grand Teton, Yellowstone, and Glazier National Parks with no issues. I'm a retired lineman and I could have used these everyday in the field. The only thing I would rather Danner provide is a lace hook at the top instead of a eye loop.

Great Boot, Decent Price.
Like a previous reviewer, I’m former military and was issued these for Afghanistan. As a soldier, we walk to live and boots are our lifeblood. I wore my issue Danners (dark brown like this) out in about 5 years. I picked up a second pair in 2017 (brand new) at a Army surplus store (for $90) in the lighter tan color. I also walk my dogs several (6-8) miles a day….every day, rain, snow or shine, and I will say, all around these are great performers. They can be a bit heavier and “clunky”, especially when compared to some Salomon’s, but if you can find these at an Army surplus for $90-100…..you’ll be hard pressed to find something more sturdy, durable and weatherproof. I only deducted a star for 1) the high price and 2) they tend to split where the plastic/rubber lining is stitched to the leather (where your foot bands). I’d call this “normal” wear and tear but I’ve had some black leather combat boots last 15-18 years, re-soled, re-laced……

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve had the boots for a week now and I’m waffling on whether I should return them. I ordered a men’s 9W based on reviews that said they run narrow. I usually take a size 8 1/2 W. While the boots are pretty comfortable out of the box, they don’t offer much arch support and the heel cup feels loose on my feet. Men’s 8.5 W are apparently not available otherwise I’d consider an exchange. I’m concerned that these boots will stretch out and become sloppy over time. So I’ll probably return them.

Great Boots!
I have a pair of the military issue version of these boots, love these boots! I walk my dog in the high desert of NM around 4 miles a day. The are just right, not to heavy but give great support and protection in the varying high desert terrain. Just purchased a new pair, these are almost exactly the same as the issue version. The only difference is the new version has hooks at the very top lace, opposed to the holes on the mil version, which is even better!

Initial Impression
Got these boots for work in the woods on steep, rocky terrain. Wanted US boot of a more solid long-lasting build--Keen just doesn't offer that though I prefer how Keen's fit. I have bunions and broken toes so if you have ugly toes get the wides. These boots are tube shaped but not as stiff as expected. Do not feel real loose in heel. Look nice and should last a long while which is why I got them. As for how they perform on the trail--I will have to add that later....

American Made Greatness!

I have had them off road in mud, the treads load up, but do self clean. The Gore-Tex liner works good, almost too good. My feet seemed to overheat in temps over 30 degrees. They are comfortable and require no break in period. I can see why Danner Crater Rim boots are a boot of choice for SOF operators in Afghan and other challenging environment. Best of all they are American made!!
