Rated 5 out of 5 by from More leg room, very stable I bought this yesterday and tried it out on the lake. This is my 2nd kayak, ive had a pescador perception 12 footer. This kayak is pretty nice. Did not feel like i would tilt over due to it being wider and it being heavier (not wobbly compared to my perception). There is a lot of leg room and room to bring in fish with a net. A lot of space in the back trunk with 2 pole holders. This kayak feels pretty solid and seat is pretty comfy. Cons: a little heavy at a little under 100 lbs (good for a 2 man team) but im pretty strong so i can carry my load. But heavy weight keeps this kayak pretty sturdy. A little slower than my perception.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stable and ready to go! For the price point, you can't go wrong wit this Kayak. My criteria were to be able to stand up and the stability. I weight around 250 lbs, and this bad boy handles it with no problem. The seat is fantastic. You can adjust it multiple way. The hatch is plentiful to keep rods and other stuff that you need. I recently added a trolling motor to mine to help get to my fishing holes faster. :-) The only con I would say is the weight. But I knew that going into it and I'm ok with that. On my Kayak I have added fish finder, the trolling motor and I'm about to put the x-wing console. I get alot of compliment on the aesthetic of the kayak.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great kayak for the money I've had this kayak out on the water about 5 times now and I love it. It took a couple of outings to feel confident standing and fishing, but now that I've practiced for a few hours, its insanely easy. The only downsides that I can see with this kayak are no storage/dash in the cockpit, and the weight. It would be nice to have a compartment to mount a fish finder on, or keep things in while fishing because the front hatch is pretty much unusable when on the water. Also, this thing is a TANK, I'm serious, it weighs almost 100 lbs EMPTY. It's a bit of a challenge loading and unloading into my truck bed, but just be careful and you'll be fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great yak for the price. I love it I bought my kayak a week ago and took it out today for the first time and it was awesome. Gave got to fish off of it yet. But I'm positive that it'll be awesome. My daughter and I decided to take a father daughter day and go kayaking. It was both of our first time and right from the beginning I was 100% confident in not flipping over at all. Especially considering the fact that we was in some pretty Swift current and big rapids. As far as my daughter she flipped over twice in the first 50 feet. She's 12 and weighs 109 lbs I weigh 200 and 6ft 4. So I stuck her on with me and we had no problems manuvering around and down the rapids for the reminder of our 6 hour trip. I hope that this helps

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for first timers Got two of these a few months ago. We'd never even been in kayaks and these were perfect for us! Holds my 400lbs husband with no problems. Plenty of room at my feet for my toddler to enjoy the ride as well. Lots of storage and I usually throw a cooler on the back of mine for long treks. The only downside is my husband's has a small hole in the back now from a rock getting caught up. Field and stream is sending us a free repair kit for it so the customer service is amazing. Definitely worth the buy and glad we went with these.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like it. Very stable. I can stand on it and fish. I added a trolling motor and the weight of the battery and motor actually make it even more stable. I guess due to the weight. I love the boat. Kind of heavy to put on my suv but I manage. Great for fishing. I keep four rods ready at all times. I made a motor mount in the rear. The transom is square, just right to mount a motor, so I did! I put a 45 lb Minn Kota on that puppy. It moves out pretty quick. Gets me up the rivers and lakes so I can focus on fishing, not rowing. Tracking is pretty good for a battleship sized yak like this one. I always get compliments from others. My friends call it the Cadillac of kayaks. I take out the seat when i transport it, it saves about 15 lbs. Seat comes out easily.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Kayak for the money! I went to the local Field and Stream to buy the Old Town Predator XL, instead I walked out with the Shadow Caster. Price wasn't an issue. Use was. I hunt and fish out of this kayak with no problem. Now its not fast on the water but it is very stable. I've carried 2 dozen decoys into the swamps with ease. Its heavy, and I mean heavy for a kayak. I have a SUV with a trailer hitch extender and there's no way I'm trying to lift this beast on top by myself. I flip the hitch extender over and lay the seats down in the back and transport it that way. Works out just fine and I don't worry about pulling any muscles. Seating is good but it could be better. A higher seat back would be good. I'll probably buy another seat to replace the factory one. I really like the width and overall size, weight not so much, and the tri hull rear. Not sure if I would take this one out on big open water due to the design but for where I hunt and fish it's more than enough. I would have given it 5 stars but due to the seat design I gave it 4. Overall its a very nice kayak for $800. A lot less than the $1400 was going to spend on the Old Town and even if I put money into the Shadow Caster I'll still be under the Old Town price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for first time kayaking, very stable This is my first kayak and I love it. I was able to stand up in it to fish on my first time out on the water. It is very stable, handles well in choppy water and it has everything I need to take it out fishing. I was complimented about it on my first time on the water by multiple people. It has everything you need to go fishing and be on the water by yourself.Note, I did have the issue with the seat mounting screws ripping out of the plastic but I was able to have a replacement part sent directly to me by the manufacturer.
