Rated 3 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for (or can afford) Prior to buying this safe, I researched many brands and read many reviews. The best safes cost $1000's more, which will be a future purchase, in a more distant future. The higher ticket safes have thicker steel. This safe is adequate, yet mediocre. I would not encourage storing valuable family erlooms in it because with the right tools and the right amount of time, this safe and many others that Dick's or any other store sells can be broken into. Again, these cheaper safes have really thin metal walls. With that being said, it is critically important to bolt the safe into the floor, which it comes predrilled with hardware. You should locate it with the left side (i.e., your left when facing it) against a wall to prevent someone from prying it open. However, the safe comes with 2 holes directly in the bottom middle of the safe with 2 very short/thin 3" lag screws/bolts. The safe would be better with 4 holes predrilled near all for corners to prevent rocking. I bought 4" Tapcon concrete screws and had to drill the predrilled holes to allow them to fit. The included screws were just too tiny to be secure. The back of the safe has predrilled holes that show the inner drywall/flameproof packing. I don't know what those are for, but I read somewhere that it may be for ventilation. I don't know about anyone else, but the less open holes and access to my safe, the happier I am. I don't care about ventilation; it's a safe. So I bought 4" lag bolts and washers and screwed those into the wall studs. The safe does not move. I might have to add that I moved the 600lbs safe into the house by myself (not recommended). Use a floor jack to take the door off; use a dolly for the door. Then rock/slide the safe onto a furniture dolly, strap it down with a ratchet strap using towels to protect the safe finish on edges and under the ratchet, and it rolls easy. I did have to use some scrap plywood and 2x4s to make a ramp to go up one step. Once mounted, use the floor jack to put the door back on. Pretty easy actually. Aside from having guard dogs and a security system, I think the safe will be secure for a long time. I doubt I'll be flooded, but at least it's fire resistant, so all-in-all it's halfway decent. 3 stars for being halfway decent, thin armor, poorly constructed floor with bad placement of predrilled holes, and 3 stars for having a power outlet, which also makes the safe less secure, but LED lighting is nice. A battery operated LED would be better. 5 stars for being heavy.
