Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not olympic standard Know what you are getting. These plates are smaller diameter than standard plates which will cause issues if you plan on deadlifting, powerclean, or any other floor work. It is somewhat flase advertising to have them listed as olympic when they do not conform to standard dimensions. If you don't plan on doing any lifts from the floor then it should be fine. However the bar is only rated for 300lbs. I would even question this rating as my bar is bent in the middle and the max I have done is 250lb squats with it. If you are beginner, not putting up big weights, and dont plan on doing any floor lifts then this is a nice affordable set. If not you should invest in a a real olympic set.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It does exactly as it says, not fancy but does the job I bought this weight set a year ago, workout every other day, and can honestly say this was a good purchase. Is the bar fancy? No, but it gets the job done and never gave me problems. Are the weights fancy? No, but they are pretty close to their stated weights and do the job. Never felt unbalanced with them. This isn't a "show it off to everyone" set. This is a set for if you really want to get in shape and workout. Lifting heavy things and putting them back down is how you get muscle. These are some cheap heavy things for you to use. Get lifting.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from good, but flaky I really like having a set of weights at home for when I can't get to the gym. The bar I got, however, has a "corrugated" texture on the bar ends, and the chrome started flaking off. It looks like glitter on the floor -- but worse. A longer speck (about 1/32nd of an inch) found its way into a work sock, and then into my heel, and I had to dig it out (no easy feat) -- that's when I figured out it was chrome from the bar that was causing my heel redness and pain (I thought I was just getting old). I have since carefully cleaned the floor and wrapped the bar ends with saran wrap and "sealed" them with clear packing tape, which I believe will solve the problem -- but I wanted buyers to be aware of the issue (especially if you are diabetic and have lost feeling in your feet).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding!!! I bought this 300lb Olympic weight set about a month ago. I was a little hesitant to purchase it at first because some reviews said the bar only weighed 35lbs, not true! I weighed the bar and it is a true 45lb Olympic bar and really nice quality to boot. Another misnomer about the bar is the knurling. Some people said they had difficulty sliding the weights or the spring retainer on because the diameter was to close in tolerance, not true as well... at least in my case. The weights themselves are all nicely finished and weigh what they are supposed to, handholds are a really nice feature too. The only odd thing I found is that the 45lb weight is slightly smaller in diameter than your standard gym weight and I could care less about that. At this time you will not find a better deal for the money than this set.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value for the set I decided to setup a home gym for convenience and also to avoid busy gyms. So far, I haven't found other deals that can best this price. The bar is standard and the plates fit just fine on it. For an amateur weight lifter like me, this was perfect and maybe as I become more experienced, I can look into ways to upgrade. Otherwise, I'm aiming to be using this weight set for many years. Also, I purchased online and picked up the product in store to save on shipping. The store associate helped me move the weight set to my car and I was able to fit everything within my sedan (just gotta put down the back seats to make room for the bar). I do suggest moving it indoors with one other person, the 45lbs weight package (90 lbs total) is hefty.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good weights, Bar is not good You wont find a better deal then these weights. However please keep in mind that these 45 pound plates shorter then normal 45lb plates thus making the deadlift awkward. But other then that the weights held up fine. The bar however having it for 3 years the knurling is gone. Don't recommend putting more then 250 on this bar.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Set for the $$$ For this review I weighed all of the plates in pairs.Bar x 1 = 43.20lbs45's x 2 = 90.20lbs35's x 2 = 70.40lbs25's x 2 = 51.20lbs10's x 2= 19.80lbs5's x 4 = 20.60lbsTotal Weight = 295.40lbs minus the spring clamps. While as individual plates they would seem inaccurate but in pairs, as they would be loaded on the bar, the differences in lbs per plate is offset to bring the total weight very close. As you can see from the above weigh inns, the imbalance of weight from side to side is not great enough to create a noticeable difference while in use as a pair (meaning the bar does not feel heavier on one side). Cosmetically, this set is nice. It does have differences form plate to plate. Silver paint on most lettering and some not at all. Hammer Coat coloring (gray) is the same. There are some blemishes. TIP: If you are concerned about the appearance of your weight set, Rustoleum Hammered paint in grey/black color in a near perfect match for touching up those problem areas and a Silver Metallic paint pen for the lettering. Presto! Wham o! nice again! The bar! Is this a high end bar? Well No it is not a high end bar but does get the job done. If you are new to lifting chances are you will not know the difference between a higher end bar and the bar supplied in this set. But once you get some lifting under your belt, You will upgrade the bar accordingly. Bottom Line,In my opinion, this is a excellent plate set, in this price range, for the home gym. I have no complaints. My Body can not tell the difference between lifting with these fitness gear plates or a high $$$$ set of Olympic Weights. I will still grow both in size and strength regardless of the Brand Name. When the time comes that I need more weight, I will purchase this set again and sell the extra bar for an even greater savings on a excellent product for home use.If you continue your researching, you will not find a better set for the money. Period! Now that you know, GET LIFTING!In the interest of transparency, I have never bought anything from Dicks before and had never heard of Fitness Gear. I simply rolled the dice based on the reviews and research from other resources. As a result, I am very pleased with this purchase and will continue to return to my local Dick's Sporting Goods. If it isn't broke why fix it!Thanks Dick's/Fitness Gear for providing a excellent product at a price I can afford.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good set Bought this set to add weight to my collection. I TRY to lift on a regular basis for conditioning and strength gains. I don't have much at all to complain about this set. It has a good balance of weight plates in my opinion and the bar is just an added bonus. I really like the set up of the plates meaning you can easily grab these plates and place them on the bar and return them to a rack. I consider them to be ergonomic. The bar does come with a hefty amount of "grease" all over it, so it needs cleaned up once removed from the plastic wrap. Other than that If you are looking to get a set of Olympic plates, I feel this is well worth the money.
