Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not for explosive movements!!!! I bought this bar about 5 months ago in the set. Works great for bench press, but the thread on the collars will strip if intending to do deadlifts, cleans, pendlay rows, etc. The thread will strip and the bar will be useless.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Thread stripped If you plan on doing just benchpress this is your bar. However, mine stripped after a month or two of deadlift. I do not drop my weight at any point in reps. This bar stripped because it is of lower quality and was not durable enough to handle the exercise.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not a good design For the money you can't expect much but this bar has one major flaw. The sleeves are grooved which causes weights to scrape when putting them on and off and the diameter of the sleeves are okay for fitness gear weights but too large for other brands. The fit is too tight. The only reason I bought this bar is that the distance between collars is 54 inches. Most bars are 52 inches, including the better fitness gear bars.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Could be Better For the price I can't complain that the bar is only recommended for lifts up to 300 lbs. What I did not expect are the way the sleeves are made. They have a slight grooved pattern that actually interferes with the placement and removal of the plates. What the user will hear is a scraping sound. Also, although Olympic plates fit, the fit is tight. This bar could have been a lot better and perhaps worth 4 stars if it used smooth sleeves and ones that were slightly narrower. Dicks should offer a replacement option for these sleeves. I would certainly buy it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Overpriced and generally inadequate This 7 foot, 45 lb. bar came with my Fitness Gear 300 lb. barbell set which both my son and I have used for the past 9 months. If it were only me, things likely would be fine and I would have given this product a 4 or 5 star rating since I won't be lifting anything exceeding 200 lbs. no matter how strong I become. But my son performs dead lifts at near capacity (280 lbs.) and I suspect the bar has failed under the stress. At first, the threads where the collars meet the bar separated on several occasions (and they seemed surprisingly loose or wobbly when not separated). This was annoying, but we could always screw them back together and/or tighten them. But now something has begun sliding inside one of the wider ends which shifts the balance as one lifts if you don't maintain the bar perfectly parallel with the floor during each lift. In other words, the bar has failed and its continued use is dangerous. This bar is a 300 lb. capacity rated bar. Apparently, you need a bar with considerable excess weight capacity or it will be susceptible to failure. I don't think a 300 lb. capacity bar is a good choice to be sold in a set with 255 lbs. of plates. (The bar weighs approximately 20 kg or 45 lbs. bringing the total weight of the set to 300 lbs.) There is not enough excess weight capacity to handle the stress from normal use. What's more, at $80, this is not a good value. There are bars made by Capp Barbell (500 lb. capacity) selling for $70 - clearly a better value and probably sturdy enough for my 300 lb. set. XMark Fitness makes a 700 lb. capacity bar selling for $100. Higher or professional grade bars will have 1000 to 1500 lb. capacity and will sell from $140 to $300.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gettin' Healthy I am wanting to get my son and myself in shape so we decided we are going to lift for strength condistioning. I did not know they had this bar in stock so I ordered it online and was able to pick it up instore. Looking forward to gettin' in shape.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for The bar is decent. My issues are the end pieces where the plates slide onto have ridges. When sliding plates on and off they make a horrible screeching/metal on metal noise. My other issue is the when the plates are on the bar, those same end pieces move a bit. So the bar has some wiggle which makes me worry a bit even though the bar is rated to 300 pounds. I would say for $79, its not a horrible deal, but looking back, I would rather have paid a little extra and gotten something that had a smooth finish on the end pieces. That noise is awful.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Worked well while it lasted Had this bar for almost a month and it worked just fine. Out of nowhere during a workout the threaded collar on one side just slipped while putting weight on the bar. Not sure how the thread stripped so easily. You get what you paid for I suppose.
