Great Jacket For The London Winter

This jacket has quickly become my daily jacket for a London winter. Mild rain protection so you’d want a waterproof layer, but for wind and cold protection it’s warm and the double down layer means there are no cold spots. Highly recommended.

This pack-down hoodie meets all the requirements. Firstly, the craftsmanship is impeccable. I am 5’6” athletic-built and wear a large size, and I can confirm that it is true to size. I appreciate its packability and versatility, as it can be worn with a base layer or a shell on top, enabling it to withstand temperatures as low as the single digits. I ordered the flame orange/uni blue color, which is visually appealing and would be a worthwhile purchase before it sells out. Upon receiving the hoodie, I applied Nikwax Down Wash and Down Proof to achieve a DWR finish. I have attached pictures for your reference.

Soft Puffy For Cool Temps

This puffy is best used for around 0 C to 5 C in dry weather, in sub zero temps it may not be warm enough. The fabric is soft and comfy to touch with a nice fleece lining on chin and neck area to keep that area warm and also helps if you have a beard. I'm about 170 cm, 66 kg and a small fit too tight in the chest and armpits, medium fits well relaxed with room to layer, the sleeves are just a bit long. The hood and collar have nice coverage to keep head and neck warm. Personally, I don't mind the yellow shoelace, it doesn't get in the way much. A great feature is the double zipper which allows you to vent heat without taking the jacket off.

Love Everything About It!

I live in the Western mountains of Maine beside the White Mountain National Forest. We get spooky weather here. It was a brittle -10° when I got up at 0530. I threw my Expedition Pack Down Hoodie on over just a merino wool base layer. Something I wear 24/7 in the winter here. I was quite comfortable outside. I'm not going to lie, my face stung from the cold. A quick pull, a tug or two here and there and voila! Now it was tolerable which is enough! I'm 69. I've been through a few jackets in my lifetime. I can tell within 5 minutes whether a jacket will do the job and stand up to wear. This was a treat to myself. I have gone through so many winters with barely adequate clothing. This year I finally figured out how to dress. This jacket is superb. It handled some rather high wind the other day better than I expected. I HATE feeling that cold wind blow right through a jacket! Look, I found myself just wanting to go for a walk the other day just so I could wear it! I love the length in the back. Not keeping your butt covered is asking for trouble! Love the arm length which SHOULD be a tad longer than normal to ensure no "pull up" around your wrists. Love way you can pull this jacket around your body. Everything is adjusted just for me! Any jacket like this really shines with proper layer material. It's no secret but, just go with wool. Period. A wool base layer (I go with the thickest I can find) is the key. I quite often wear just my wool base layer for a shirt. Job well done Fjallraven!
