Poorly Made…sad

I bought this set over a year ago, and we finally unpackaged it and played last weekend. We completed half a game when the first handle detached from my son’s mallet. My son attempted to tighten the two tiny screws, but the end of the handle was damaged. Soon my daughter’s and my handles failed in the same manner. We continued playing using the three remaining used mallets to finish the game. The handles and mallets are pretty, but feel very rough in your hand. The mallets were always loose and could not be properly tightened. Needless to say, we were all very disappointed with this set. It will not survive another game as the last three are also damaged by normal play. I am a slight woman and was not rough with the set. Very sad…

Advertising Problems

The set is aesthetically pleasing, especially for people who appreciate good wood. Unfortunately it was impossible to tighten some of the mallet heads without carpenter skill or, for the average person, glue. It would have been nice to know that the wickets are unusually narrow.Earlier I had ordered a different "deluxe" croquet set from Dick's, and that had non-standard length mallets. Maybe croquet is just not Dick's game.
