Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unbeatable value I'm not sure what the folks who had negative things to say about this kayak expected. As a sit-on-top angler kayak, it's not made for whitewater or anything with serious surf. Make sure you get the appropriate boat for your water conditions. I've been fishing in this kayak for about a year in a variety of environments - large rivers, class I rapids, small creeks, and large bays. I've had no issues taking on water or with stability. I've found it to be a wonderful kayak to fish from - plenty of room to store gear topside. I usually have two rods, an anchor, a tackle box, and a cooler, and a hammock on board with no issues. I do agree the hatch providing interior storage is not real useful. I've never used this interior space for storage, but I did use it for access to install two cleats behind the seat for my anchor line. If you're looking for a stable platform to fish in calm to moderate water conditions, I would highly recommend this kayak. Sure, you can spend a couple thousand bucks on a fishing kayak with more features, but this one serves my purposes just fine.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I had high hopes I bought this sit on top with the hope to use it as a fishing kayak. I weigh 250lbs and the kayak is rated at 300lbs. It took on too much water through the scupper holes. It also took on water through the dry hatch which allowed water into the cavity. The kayak basically sank. Dick's was great about the return and I swapped it for a Pelican model also rated at 300 lbs which gave me no issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super good for a good price Great fishing kayak when you're on a budget. Stable, fast, and fun to fish from. Highly recommended. Buy scupper plugs to prevent water from spashing into it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Object lesson in "You get what you pay for". Rear hatch leaks badly! Bought one of these last fall to take to Puerto Penasco, MX to use in the (mild) surf. I was mainly attracted by the price (I'm cheap) and the weight since I would have to manhandle the 'yak up and down the beach by myself. So far so good. In the water, the boat is quite maneuverable and remarkably stable. Stable enough that you can sit sideways with both feet over the side, in calm water anyway. Seat and foot rests are very comfortable for my 6' 230lb self. I really like this boat except....... The bad news is that the rear hatch leaks badly. Neither the hatch mount nor the rubber hatch cover are at all water tight. If the rear cargo well accumulates more than a couple of inches of water, as it will in any surf or chop, water pours into the interior of the boat. I can actually hear it pouring in. As the boat fills up and sinks lower, it loses its stability and turns turtle easily. The rod holder fittings are not water tight either and if you flip, water pours in through them as well. The hatch is really useless anyway, since there is no compartment or bag to hold and secure your stuff. It's just a opening to the interior of the boat. I'm not one to return things (not my nature) so I have 'fixed' the hatch with some thick neoprene gaskets, scrap plastic from a utility bucket, and lots of GOOP marine adhesive. It's purely cosmetic now, and COMPLETELY water tight. I removed the rod holders and covered the holes with Gorilla tape. Inelegant but effective. My boat does not leak now, but the buyer shouldn't have to do this. My advice to Future Beach is to lose the hatch altogether and seal the rod holders better. Or lose them too. If they did, they would have an unbeatable bargain boat. Cannot recommend this kayak in its current configuration.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply Awesome for $$$ I purchased this Yak a couple months ago and the performance is incredible. It tracks straights, very stable @ 190lbs I can stand and sight fish for bass. Why pay $1000> when you can add on to this Yak for less than $100. I added a trolley system, paddle holder, cleats and pad eyes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A lot of kayak for the money The first one I brought home had an issue with the bottom not being symmetrical and it was pulling to the left. It appeared to have a long dip in the plastic where it should have been peaked like the other side. Dick's was kind enough to let me exchange it for another one. The replacement was fine and it tracked much better in the water. I like the big open storage areas front and back. In rough water the front does start to fill with water. The sealed compartment would be better if it didn't go under the entire kayak. Be careful what you put in there since it could be hard to get out. For the price, this kayak is hard to beat
