This mat was a GREAT purchase, especially for the price! Aesthetically, the color is beautiful (although it's more of a fuchsia, rather than true purple) and the design is subtly gorgeous. As far as functionality, I LOVE the way it holds up to sweat during a workout...no slipping at all! I am a sweaty chic and this mat has proven worthy during many workouts including PiYo, Hot Yoga, and Power Flow. The 5mm cushion is nice too...compared to a 3mm mat, the extra thickness is pleasant without sacrificing balance. I was a little worried about the length of the mat feeling too short (my previous mats were 72" vs. the 68" of this one), but I'm only 5'3" and I didn't even notice the 4" difference during practice. The only caveat that I've found with this mat is that the underside slides around on certain floor types...so while you are stuck like a tree frog to the top of the mat, the mat may slip around underneath you. I've found this true on laminate flooring, for example, but it works just fine on my hardwoods at home and the rubber flooring at the hot yoga studio. So, depending on the floor type, you may notice the mat slipping beneath you.

The Gaiam Sol is the only mat I use for my personal practice and as a yoga teacher. I recommend it to everyone for hot classes, restorative and every type of class in between. Truly a non-slip mat even in the hottest of hot yoga classes. No yoga towel needed.

I bought this mat many months ago and it's hands down the best mat for not slipping and has great cushioning. The only downside is that the top layer is bubbling and separating. Aside from that this mat is wonderful.

This Yoga mat has incredible grip. Fantastic quality too. Durable and great for use on multiple surfaces.
Owner of this mat
This is a very good non-slip mat. The mat performs incredibly well out of the box, especially if you are used to the standard issue $20-$30 mats out there. This one is about 5 steps above those for about 2.5x the price, meaning: it's a worth it! My hands and feet never slid using this mat, until I wore out the top layer. I've owned mine for about a year, and only now am I facing the fact that it's time to say adieu. I used it pretty heavily, 3-4 times per week for Ashtanga and higher-level vinyasa classes. Over time the coating wore off in areas of heavy use, like where I put my hands in down dog, and in those areas now it is very slippery. But hey, I got a year of use out of mine, so I can't complain.
