Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice mat but BAD odor! I received this mat as a gift and was thrilled with it at first. Aired it out overnight (as all new mats tend to have some odor) and happily drove to my Bikram Yoga studio for class. Unfortunately, the odor was still super strong, so I aired it for another 2 days & used my old mat. The odor is still there & still strong. I called customer service on a Saturday afternoon only to discover they're available Mon thru Friday only. I'll call them during my lunch break this week. Hopefully they'll have a way to get the odor out, or I'll have to exchange this mat for something else. Too bad, I love the idea of using renewable resources for yoga mats!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! This really is a non-slip mat! :) I am very happy with my purchase. I was shopping for food an groceries while mentally complaining about my previous yoga mat when I came across this one: Giam Shakti Sol sku-05-59249,  I guess all Shakit Sol mats are the same. Extremely comfortable! I can now focus more on asanas instead of worrying  about  whether I will slip and break my joints during my yoga sessions. Very empowering indeed. I truly recommend the Shakti Sol for anyone who is just starting yoga, because no matter how much you sweat from anxiety and concentration, your asanas  will be solid and you will feel more in-tuned with your body.  This mat will help you  to strengthen and focus without any distractions.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Warning: Slippery When Wet I often read reviews so thought this might help others out.  I received this mat as a gift after using (and loving) one the cheaper gaiam mats for several years, which I had basically worn to pieces.  Unfortunately, I've found that this mat is very slippery during heated power classes, and even during regular vinyasa classes I start to slip as soon as I warm up a bit.  It also smells like rubber (as do I after using it), even after having it for months and washing it with the gaiam mat spray after every use.  Plus, I find it very hard in that it does not provide as much cushion to knees to wrists as I would like.  If you like firmer surfaces and don't tend to sweat during your practice then I think the would be perfect for that situation, unfortunately that is just not me and i find myself frustrated with the mat with almost every use.  Hope this helps!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just What I Needed! I love this mat! I have been using it for almost a month now and it does smell faintly of rubber, but it faded quickly and was not overpowering even upon first unrolling the mat. Especially when compared to the chemically smells that almost knock me off my feet from standard mats, the natural rubber scent is not bad at all, almost calming in contrast ;). As for the texture/grippiness, I can see how it might become slippery if the mat gets REALLY wet, but I definitely sweat more than most and have had no traction issues (which I am prone to, sweat or no). My super-boney butt loves the thickness of the mat and I am still able to attain great balance! All in all, I did a lot of research before I bought this mat and I certainly made the right choice. I couldn't imagine a better mat, though I do wish it was black :P

Rated 1 out of 5 by from awful I have given this mat a try for 2 months now and I'm never using it again. It still smells so strong I have to change my clothes as soon as I finish practicing - I'm embarrassed to take it to class. I might be able to bet over that if I didn't slide all over the place while I'm practicing. I actually think it's dangerous, it has it way too much give and I've tried both sides.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Traction on this Mat The Yoga studio at my health club had these mats. I fell in love with them due largely to the great grip they provided. Sadly despite their solid structure, with the heavy use and cleaning from constant use they began to deteriorate. They club replaced them with cheap, slippery, generic mats. My husband tracked down the exact mat at Gaiam and surprised me with it on Christmas. My husband and the mat are both keepers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! I love my yoga mat! I felt the difference in my practice immediately. Because of the awesome traction I'm able to push myself even further into my poses. I mainly practice power\flow\vinyasa yoga so I do get sweaty and the traction holds up. My favorite part is the foundation it gives me. I would describe it as a thick mat but its a very firm thickness so you don't get the spongy squishy feeling and my feet don't sink down into it. Great quality mat and I would 100% would it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Crazy smell and not good for hot yoga. I bought this mat earlier in the summer once I really started practicing yoga. After months I still can't get the smell off. I use the Gaiam mat cleaner and also the essential oil cleaner my yoga studio has. Nothing has worked. After each class my hands reek of a plasticky smell from my mat. I also started to go to quite a few hot yoga classes, and this mat just can't keep up. It gets extremely slippery very quickly. Overall, I probably wouldn't buy this mat again just based off the smell. I can't quite handle it anymore. I practice around five times a week and this mat just doesn't seem to be what I need to further my practice. The one pro about this mat is the cushion. I do really like that, but that's not going to get me anywhere if I'm sliding off the mat.
