The Launch Monitor Solution I Needed…

I have a hitting bay on the side of the house and I have had several launch monitors over the years and none quite fit my needs perfectly. First I bought the Rapsodo MLM and found it to be unreliable and inaccurate. Then I got the SC4, which worked well at the range, but it didn’t work well as a golf sim with E6 Connect. Then I got the Flightscope Mevo+ with the full suite of upgrades. This was an amazing piece of equipment. Serious, club-fitter level data. It worked well with E6Connect and was extremely accurate, but it was a pain to set it up, connect it to my iPad, make sure it’s aligned properly, get E6 running… I didn’t mind all these steps, but my wife refused to even try to do all this on her own. She wanted a launch monitor/golf sim that she could just plop down in the cage, turn it on and start hitting without a bunch of extra steps in between. The Garmin R50 does exactly that. We plop it down turn it on, pick a course and start swinging. No special balls, no PC required, no iPad connection issues, no cords. The Home Tee Hero simulator works great and there’s like 40,000 courses available, which is wild. The touchscreen and the sim software are very quick and responsive. The data seems pretty darn accurate when compared to all the data I have from the Flightscope Mevo. It’s a little bulky to tote around to the driving range or use on course, but you could do it. If you’re looking for something that provides ball and club data and doesn’t need a PC or IPad to run, the Garmin R50 is it.

Fantastic Unit!

Great product. Super easy to use. Fantastic selection of courses with Home Tee Hero. I have a couple of minor gripes/wish list items for future updates: 1) I wish i could interact with GSPRO without needing to use a computer at all. 2) adjustable mulligan timer - timer is just too quick for my guests using the machine. 3) gender and tee assignment in my profile, so I don't have to assign it every time I start a round. 4) when playing with a left-handed player, have them go last on a hole and then start the next hole to minimize the number of times to move the r50 during a round.

Poor Repair Suporty

Bought an open box. Turned out to be faulty. 1 month later no resolution. Well built but support has been difficult. I’ve since returned the r50.

Garbage

Bought this to a little relaxing golf in the garage. Club distances are 50-80 short on driver and 3 wood, over 30% of hits aren't recorded making you hit multiple times till it reads the shot and chipping is so far off it's not worth doing. It also won't read club metrics on chips. Putts are way off too. I've updated the software, use new clean white balls, tried six different lighting options and nothing fixed any of the issues. Will be returning it tomorrow and will get a Foresight instead.

Awesome Launch Monitor

Have had my R50 for about a month & I absolutely love the features! I’ve taking it to the range and it works great there too. The only issue I’m seeing is if you hit in a penalty during a round on Home Tee Hero it doesn’t give you the option to do a proper drop. It will automatically put you on a downslope and it’s near impossible to get over the hazard. This issue needs to be addressed. Other than that I would recommend this to anyone in the market for a launch monitor.

R50 Review

R50 is excellent but can stand a few upgrades: 1.being able to connect to an iPhone/iPad so I can hear the shot readout instead of having to look at the unit. 2. In home tee hero in order preview holes on my downloaded home course holes I have to put in a score or pick up the ball instead of just being able to progress or choose a hole. 3. Adding dynamic loft to the features.

Just A Lot Of Fun And Helpful

We have had the R50 for three weeks and it has been great. The ability to play almost any golf course around the world is a lot of fun. In less than a week I was able to bring my average score down a good ten strokes. Now I want to see if it will translate to a real course. In short, I can not recommend the R50 more.

I bought my R50 about a month ago. It has really been enjoyable dissecting the data as I complete more practice sessions!

Good Features, But Not Very Realistic Courses

It works great except after I turn it off. I have to reset it, to get it to restart every time. Also not much detail on the courses or graphics to make it look more realistic

Approach R50

Best simulator I've ever used in my basement. Does everything I need.
