As other reviewers have mentioned and shown the quality of this machete is horrible. Gerber should be ashamed to put their name on this and I can't believe this is still in their product line. I've actually owned mine for a few years but never had an occasion to use it until a few days ago. After just a very short period of use clearing vines and small limbs the blade became bent and folded in several places.

I got one for my birthday as part of some camping gear. I used it for work bonfires , camping , you name it , it holds an edge and a saw on the back is really nice.

Gator make a fine Machete. I have bought several over the years, and they are all still working me like a charm.

Blade is sharp out of the package, but sharper to your preference. Blade has good swing weight to it. Great for chopping or sawing small tree branches and brush. Chop at the proper angle( not straight down) and it chips away material just as an axe. Used the proper way, this knife gets it done.😀

Very nice design for price and for intended use. As far as blade sawback and ergonomic grip. However I have seen in every picture review the blade doing the same as mine… now as per design specifications I can say I used it according to intended use. I’ll post a picture if I can figure out how lol. Nothing as bad as the others but slight nicks/bends in blade. Not really sure if I were to sand/grind them out that it would not definitively affect the safety as it shows proven to bend thinning the cutting edge isn’t safe. Being an outdoorsman as I’m sure most are and prior USN operator. We all know that safety is paramount without it that’s a loss before you can do the job you need it to do. Result failure! Would love to hear any feedback on this as I am curious to know if there are any solutions ways to prevent this from occurring so often. Thanks in advance. God Bless!

I bought on sale this Gator Machete at the end of 2024 Summer thinking ahead about a task I knew I had to to do in Spring 2025. Terrible mistake! It is already out of warranty. I have read several other reviews and agree with almost most of the bad reviews. Blade is thin, steel is too soft; Blade became dull after the first use; and got dented trying to cut down some small bushes branches occupaying my to-be-garden. As soon as I hit a branch as thick as any of my fingers, it got dented right away. Was it my angle of attack? No, it was not. I changed the angle few times and ended up with as many dents; big dents on the blade. I am dissapointed with the quality and performance of this Gater Machete. Not even close by far to the quality and performance of the machetes we used while being boy-scouts during our teen years. A good feature of the product: it is easy on the hand while using it. You came here for and advice? Do not buy it. A dissapointed customer (ex-customer)

I have had this product around a year and have not used it alot. The handle broke while using it. They really should make it with a steel shank all the way through the handle. Nice blade though.

I bought this machete 7 years ago I used it a lot very happy with it, very strong I cut lots of brush and small tree with it's very strong I even cut my gun stock with it when it was cleaning the brush around my blind, I didn't see it. you have to sharpen regularly and yes if you leave it moist it will rust, the problem is sheaths it's not very good quality it wear off very fast. over all I am happy for the amount of use I got from it.

This may be the worst quality item Gerber has ever made. Partial tang, blade is thin and made of soft steel. I was cutting small branches off of some trees and the blade tip bent and cracked off. These were branches the size of my pinky finger. I wasn't cutting oak or walnut. Do not buy this product.
