This is my second Fairlead 34 Drop Bottom Duffel. The first has gone through many ski trips on airplanes and baggage handling and has finally given up. The features on this bag are too numerous to describe but suffice it to say the bag is perfect for ski gear ie. helmet, goggles, gloves, boots, ski clothes and more.

Second trip with this bag, seam separated on end of bag. Luckily I brought a roll of duct tape along and was able to get my stuff home. Looked like poor quality workmanship.

The product is clearly made cheaper than their previous roller duffels. The previous duffel had back pack straps that were hidden in a compartment. It also had a an additional zipper pocket on the top when the bang is nuts bottom. And now he has one smaller zipper compartment. Off the adjacent main one were before it had to one of the top and one on the bottom. The fabric also doesn’t seem to be quite as resistant, but Time will tell.

As others have noted, the Velcro that connects the main straps is not effective. I always attach it when checking my bag but the bag always arrives off the carousel with the straps separated. They are then vulnerable to catching on something. The worst issue is that baggage handlers pick it up by one strap which must account for my receiving the bag yesterday off a United flight with the straps apart and a large hole in the bag where a baggage handler had picked it up by one strap, Now I need a new bag. Sierra - can you replace it?

I was looking for a bag that had good support and a drop bottom. With my previous duffel style bag, everything would fall to the bottom making it hard to lug around. This bag has the convenience of a duffel with side support, bottom compartment, and wheels. Overall easy to use, easily fits a weeks worth of clothing including my hiking shoes. Very pleased with the purchase, wish I had found it sooner. Looks great too.

Great piece, had one previously that lasted 10 plus years!

This travel bag is perfect for fly fishing travel. The drop bottom holds wet waders and wading boots to fly home without getting all your other clothing and gear wet and dirty. The bag is perfect size to carry all your fishing gear including wading jackets and flies. In addition, the wheels make it easy to travel with to destinations that require luggage transfers such as getting the gear from the airport to the float plane dock. Highly recommend this travel bag when you need a bag that will carry all your clothing and gear. 5 stars!!!

Good design and like the room but use metal zippers...these plastic ones didn't last! disappointing!

High quality bag - tons of room- bought for DMAT deployments - rugged bag.

I bought this bag 2 yrs ago, if that, and it is falling apart. The handles have holes ripped in them, the bottom compartment zipper is falling off and I had to gorilla glue it to the seams so it wouldn't open on a trip to Alaska. I now cannot open up the bottom compartment fully. I had a roller duffle for 15 yrs with zero issues from this company and the new material is horrible, cheap and will not last long. There is no way to get a replacement and they charge you to ship it to get it looked at. I am now on the hunt for a better duffle and will NOT buy High Sierra again. I have bragged about this company for years, but no longer.

Second trip and one of the seams completely blew apart. Very disappointing. We are in New Zealand so a warranty repair is no go. Go smaller or a different brand. Never had this issue with Eddie Bauer bags.

We have had a set of high sierra luggage for many years (10yrs?) and have grown to love their robustness and versatility. Came back on a whim to buy another set but disappointed to see the bean counters have cheapened the product based on the many reviews. The old set is well traveled but still perfect! Let us know when you are back on your game High sierra. The five stars are for the original set we bought many years ago.

Sucks:they took out the mesh no underwater socks??

very sturdy bag, it is the 4 th that we bought over the years and they resist all the bad treatment in the world's airports

Bigger version of a rolling duffel that I've been happy with for years. Seems to be well built, will be testing it out in the next few weeks. Locking the zippers on the main compartment, why not the sides as well? Wish it were lighter (1/5 of the checked baggage allowed weight is eaten up by the bag). Old version had a mesh zippered area in the top which is now gone - minor loss made up for the bigger side pockets.
