Got a great deal on the release of this filter. Nice to bring on hikes instead of packing a bunch of water.

A Wonderful Filter

Took two of these Katadyn filters on a 75 day canoe trip with 3 other group mates. We would filter water throughout the day in our canoes as we paddled and we were in no shortage of fresh clean water to drink. Even on the silty waters of Lake Winnipeg, the filters continued to work (with occasional rinsing). Would recommend letting the water filter into a "clean water" bag, instead of straight into your water bottle, as it does slow down the more you use it.

Great Filter

Works as intended Very easy to clean Simple to use Only thing I wish it had was a way to stop water flow without the tubing. Maybe there is a cap from Katadyn? The ability to use it without a filter would be nice, too.

My Standby

Been using Katadyn BeFrees for years, pack the 3.0 liter away for camp, use smaller one during the day. Thicker material is better, as I regularly got pinhole leaks from impatiently squeezing to move water through recalcitrant filters. Wish they could do something about that, since the detach and swish "fix" doesn't really do the job. Pro Tip: bring an extra filter in case you lose one or it gets hopelessly clogged.

Works Great…

This size was on flash sale so the price was enticing enough to give it a try. For backpacking - which is what I purchased this one for - I’d probably get one a little smaller. On the plus side since it holds a lot I can fill it at the water source, bring it back to camp, hang it and use it for quite awhile. It works pretty well as a gravity filter, too. Closing the cap while it’s hanging squirts water on you - be careful! Opening is pretty small so having a cup to fill t at the source is helpful. Super easy to use…
