Absolutely The Worst Keen & Shoe I Own

Love the look but there is absolutely no comfort in the foot bed of this shoe. This is the first pair of keens that I cannot wait to take off after a short walk. As a loyal keen shopper, I hate to say it but I hate this shoe. Our household combined has owned hundreds & hundreds of pairs of keens but none have ever been this uncomfortable. Now I have to carefully select which ones I buy but this one I regret not returning immediately because of the rock hard foot bed. I give it two stars for looks but other than that, I cannot say anything good about this shoe. I will only drag this out for winter wear in the worst of conditions because it is unbearable to wear for any prolonged amount of time.

Comfort Right Out Of The Box

I am a Keen loyalist and have been hiking in Keens for many years. They feel great right out of the box and typically wear very well. I'm a big fan of the wide toe box with Keens, and this new pair doesn't disappoint. Even though they run large, I always buy a half size bigger than my normal tennis shoe size.

Keep Forever

Target 4 is the ONLY hiking shoe that I can put on new and hike 14 miles 2,400 feet up! I just wish you would make it in bright orange or moss green, something with some punch instead of the same old drab colors. Keep up with the other companies with color!

Great Hiker

Replaced the old ones, approx. 7 years old and lots of miles new ones look great.

Fantastic Balance!

i have been wearing keen Targhee I’ve waterproof hiking shoes for over 1o years. They take me on the fort to sea trail every day. Also to senior aerobics, senior yoga and Tai Chi. I find that my balance is better and my feet feel great. I just turned 78 today!

I Love These Shoes

I walked the last 100 km of the Camino de Santiago in these shoes! They seem a bit heavy to me, but the benefits were worth it. They are very stable and if I tripped or has a misstep they supported my ankles. It truly is waterproof unless you walk into deep water. I am 66 and have issues with bunions, but the wide toe box allowed me to walk without any pain. The sole is also very stable and minimizes any slippage. I will always buy these shoes. . . . keep making them!

Not Like The Old O Es I Have.

I like the shoes. But there is just something about them that is not 100% comfortable. The tongue area has some folds on the side that push on my foot. I have to pull the side of the tongue up several times while I'm wearing them. Maybe they just need "broken in" more. Other than that, they are ok.

Not Much Support

Had to add my own inserts to give these shoes better arch and cushioning all around. What’s up with Keen???

Not Great

I bought these a while back (version #3, not the latest iteration of Targhee 4). I considered buying again since I need new hikers but the negative reviews tell me I'd regret it, like I did before. . . These shoes are HEAVY, narrow, and with every step I felt my foot (at thr heel) coming out of the shoe. I tried different sizes, buying and returning the Targhee multiple times, but the heel slippage was not something I could abide. I see from other reviews these issues I had are still a thing. So I'll save myself the headache and not try these again. I really wish KEEN could get the low profile leather hiker dialed in. I have tried and liked some iterations of the Zionic shoe, but they are more like sneakers than hikers.

Nice Waterproof Boot

Great, waterproof shoe. Nice cushioning and comfortable for long days on your feet. Heel is a bit wide, so I’ll be sure to wear thicker socks next time. Wore these in a small tributary and was really impressed with how dry they kept my feet. I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review

Best Shoe

I keep trying other shoes and will stop as these are always the ones I go back to, will only but Keen from now on

Not Comfortable, No Support, Save Your Money

This shoe only gets 1 star because it’s aesthetically pretty and truly is waterproof at least. Otherwise I HATE this shoe so much. It gave me plantar fasciitis so bad. I wear them nonstop 8+ hours a day 40+ hours a week for my work (wildlife care specialist). And I have never had this kind of pain in my life. . My heels feel absolutely bruised after wearing these to the point every time I stand up at work or even at home to walk I am in severe pain. And have to walk the pain off. I can’t even get restful sleep because the pain persists in my feet. I am stuck with these shoes for awhile (bought in 3/2025) as I get a shoe allowance only once a year for work and all my extra money goes to my kids’ needs, food, and bills. So since I got stuck with these until next March, I bought some inserts to try and mitigate it a bit. NOPE. Maybe a smidge better. But I hope this review saves someone else the mistake from buying these. Not comfortable, no support, feels like you’re walking on solid ground.

Not Waterproof

These are comfortable but not waterproof. I bought them because they are supposed to be waterproof but was disappointed when they didn’t stand up to walking the dog in wet grass. To be clear the grass was regularly mowed but it was still a problem.

Hurt My Ankles

Wanted to love. They rub against the entire ankle. I even removed the KEEN logo from the tongue to relieve some of the pressure on my upper ankles. Sadly I can only wear them for a few hours at a time, and not daily. Toe area is comfortable and is a reason I didn't return.

Looks Great, But They Run

Looks great, but they run a little big. It seems the traction is slicker than normal on smoth surfaces.
