I have bought a half dozen of these based on the "Lew's name" and the quality they were supposed to have with their products. Out of the box they feel good and work well and "fairly smooth". I usually fish 2-3 days a week and these are used a lot but we'll cared for. Ive had two of these have the "drive gear" which looks to be some sort of cheap "cast" or "pop" metal. One had just a tooth or two break off, the other had a full 1/3 of the gear break off. I see they've been discontinued. - good move on their part. They should sell the drive gears as cheap as they are made to hopefully keep from losing so many customers.

Not That Great
Ok reel. Price is sort of unjustified on this reel. It has an aluminum body, sideplate, and handle so, that is why the price is sort of justified. Other than those things there's not much else outstanding about the reel. It is not as smooth as other Lew's reels at this price point, and even cheaper. For example, the Carbon Fire is nicer for $20.00 less. And, for $10.00 more than the KVD you could get a reel which is FAR better. Like the Custom Speed Spin. That is an amazing reel. Or, if you trust graphite bodies, the Laser SG is only $39.99, and has a smoother feel upon retrieve, though the drag is not great. The KVD is ok and will get the job done. I just expected something better for this price from Lew's.
