Product good - Dick's bad
This was my first experience with Dick's Sporting Goods, I wish it had gone better. It took 3 visits (I live 20 miles from the store) to complete my transaction. First, I got bad advice from the Dick's sales associate regarding what was (and was not) included with my purchase. My second visit to pick up the needed hardware to mount my hoop was incomplete because the box was missing a piece. My last visit to pick up the missing piece was an OK experience but it was 2 visits too mane. The manager, Steve was nice and apologized but I was expecting some type of consideration to make up for my time, gas and frustration.

Engineering marvel
While the strength is yet to be really tested, this kit was a "joy to behold"!
[the writer is an active 72 year old systems engineer by trade - who did the install by himself - yes, i saw that was not recommended - and i am not recommending for anyone. but i got it done and it would have been totally impossible were the product not so well designed]
the only reason i did not mark 5 stars was the design of the backboard "slots" combined with the one instruction deficiency. the slots should be longer, more narrow [and maybe strengthened] or a larger head carriage bolt provided. This is complicated by the instructions not making clear how the diagonals are connected [braces are shown - but make it appear the braces have something to do with the slots].
so, would i do it again? you bet! [and i would make sure my wife was not home to see me on a ladder with the backstop in hand!]

Universal? Not really
This product came with instructions fortunately. However the most important part - how to connect to the backboard is not included. The space between the mounting brackets was too wide, and required i buy some additional spacers to help fill the gaps. Also the backing bars didn't set close enough to the backboard supports, and the holes on the support didn't line up. so this also required an addition of a metal strap from the backboard to the mount.That all said, I could find no other support to buy, so this had to work; which after the changes it did and is solidly mounted to the house.

Instructions really need some work
Installation of the product was quite difficult, in that the instructions were incomplete. I had to rely on the pictures, which were quite small. I'm quite mechanically-oriented, but it took me about ten hours and three tries to correctly mount it due to problems and discrepancies in the instructions. The accompanying nuts are not lock nuts, so with all the use of the backboard, they keep working loose no matter how tight I make them. It would have been better to work additional washers into the design or else use lock nuts. Also, the instructions really need to be clarified in terms of the 8" vertical spacing; I had to bore two sets of holes before I figured out how it needed to be mounted. And seriously? You can't even list ahead of time the additional hardware required for mounting this? For $50, I really expected better quality in both the product and instructions.

Well worth the money!
I felt that $50.00 was a bit much for a backboard mounting kit, at least until I started to put the kit together. The kit is very well built and the end product was much better than I could have ever done without the kit. I highly recommend using it with the Lifetime hoop & backboard that I purchased.

Don't know why you all are complaining
there was no issue with this product like the previous people are saying. all the parts were correct nothing had to bent, re-drilled or anything. took me about 25 minutes to put the mount together onto the backboard. will take about an hour to attach to the garage. no mounting bolts come with it to mount to the garage, but that is a given you need to buy your own and modify the mounting location. anyone who knows how to handle a wrench should have no issue with this product. the only thing it advertises falsely is that it is galvanized. the product is made out of stainless steel. the other issue is that the directions are in about 8 seperate languages, could be separated out instead of all mixed together

universal mount not universal
Not sure what backboards this product fits. Bought my son a basketball hoop for Christmas and the universal kit. got the product completely together only to find out it does not fit. Universal means universal so it should fit every backboard out there but this product doesn't
