Rated 3 out of 5 by from For the grandkids After doing a little research and reading the reviews for this youth kayak, I decided to go ahead and purchase it for my grandchildren because it seemed to fit a wide range and allowed people up to 130 pounds to use it. It is perfect for the 8 year old but for the 12 and 14 year old, it is too short and handles much differently. We have weight ranges from 50 pounds to 90 pounds with the three grandkids. The eight year old has the best handling advantage and it tracks nicely. The 14 year old is very petite, but we found that the youth kayak was just too short and did not handle nearly as well. She and her brother have decided to stick with the adult kayaks and leave the youth kayak to the 8 year old. So, I would recommend this kayak to those less than 70 pounds and not taller than four and a half feet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bought it for myself! My old kayak became too heavy for me to carry so I bought this one and I love it! It fits in the back of my cross-over and I have no problem lifting/carrying it. I am 5'8" and 125lbs. My husband is 200lbs and he didn't sink!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy, well constructed and perfect for children Purchased a blue one and a pink one for 7yo grandson and 5 yo granddaughter to have at the lake house. Both are skiers, wave surfers, etc. so now teaching to become kayakers along with sailing. Both easily took command of their respective kayaks with minimal assist. These are incredibly well made, do not easily tip and hold enough weight for adult accompaniment if needed. Purchased a paddle leash so that attachs easily to the kayak. Thought about back support but thus far they are doing well without it. Both can haul their kayaks in and out of the water due to mounted front pull. Best price anywhere. Did in-store pick-up as the pink had to be ordered.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kayak or Paddleboard - versatile & stable Bought 2. Highly recommend this option for beginners, especially if kids are unsure if they prefer kayaking or paddelboarding. 10 yr old daughter (65 pounds) uses as kayak & 9 yr old son (75 pounds) uses as paddleboard. Very stable in the water. Not too heavy so kids can drag by themselves down to the water.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Beginner Kayak for kids We bought 2 of these kayaks and set a group of kids loose on them. The kids ranged from 5 to 14 years. All of them were easily able to paddle and steer this kayak. None of the kids tipped the kayak over and a couple of the kids took fishing gear out and used it to fish. We used it on a lake that is a pretty heavy boater lake and the wakes did not tip them. Just for giggles some of the smaller kids also stood in it and used it as a paddle board also with no issues. I would highly recommend it as a great way to get kids into the sport! It is also very light weight so the older kids could carry it alone. However when the littles tried to help move it and drug it to the car it was a little more scratched than i would have expected. Overall a great little boat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun Kayak for the kids I am a share holder in a private water ski lake and ski club in northern Utah. Our lake and club has been in operation for 13 years. We currently own 3 of the Wave Kayaks and the kids love them. They are used almost everyday mid May-mid September. They are light and easy to maneuver and have provided hours and hours of fun!. They are extremely durable. The kids drag the across the parking lot, down the beach, they try to sink them, they lay on them, stand on the load them up with multiple kids etc. We have used and abused these kayaks for many years and they still look and preform great. Great, fun, product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I can't say enough good things. Me and my wife are AVID paddlers and have been since before we ever met each other. So of course it's natural that we'd start the kids off fairly quickly. So we bought this kayak. At the time it was one of VERY few kid specific kayaks. So on to why I love this kayak.First off it's insanely stable (I've actually stood up on it and paddled although it was about 8" under water, my wife can actually paddle it easily). My daughters first time trying to actually seriously paddle she was in about 1' chop and windy, the boat never offered to flip her over. Test 1 done, this thing wasn't going to make my kids uneasy as they learned to paddle, in short order they will trust the equipment and can focus solely on learning to paddle. This is made out of incredibly sturdy materials. It's made of as good of a material as any high end $1000+ kayak. This kayak will be in commission long after our daughters will have earned their way into bigger and better things. It tracks pretty well. It has two fins in the back to help keep the boat straight. Despite the hull designed for stability and tracking it's also decently quick. Plenty fast enough for a leisurely day of paddling. It can be modded. I have modded my daughters to be a kids fishing kayak. Complete with rod holders, basket, bungees, seat, etc. A little vision and creativity go a long way, I even made her a kayak cart so she can be independent. All in all after looking at several of the other kids specific boats I don't think you can buy a better kayak for them to learn on. I do like one of the other boats, but not enough to justify the extra cost. Plus I'm not even sure it could outperform this boat for the specific criteria I think a kid needs to safely and comfortably learn to kayak.I WILL Purchase one for my youngest daughter and start modding it for her within the year.
