[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Die hard Pearl Izumi user here. Son's been hassling me about my large collection, so thought I'd try something new. First time buying Louis Garneau. So first off, these shorts don't actually button. I know the photos show a button and fly, but they're fake. And for some reason, they come with a package of more (fake?) buttons. Dear Louis Garneau - You know these shorts don't button, right? So why did you include more buttons? Is this some sort of mockery at those of us expecting shorts with a fly and button, as could reasonably be expected by the product photos? Did you plan on having them button, and order buttons, only to change your mind at a later date an now have to get rid of all these extra buttons? Anyway, all that's holding them up is elastic. There's no internal waist adjustment to snug them up, no grippy material to assist in keeping them up and no way to cinch them if too large or when the material stretches. :( I was hoping the waist would be pretty snug, and that the button and fly were there to facilitate putting on some snug waisted but still with give elastic shorts. Not the case. The large fits my sub 36" waist pretty much perfectly. After dinner. Mid morning after a pot of coffee out burning calories on the trail, they'll probably be loose. Additionally, there's no grippy material in the legs of the liner either. What I'm getting at is that these are probably gonna work their way down. Especially after they get sweaty or wet. And/or you're probably gonna spend a lot of time hiking them up. Not what I any of us want to be doing or see being done when out on a ride. Pockets (front, no rear) are also big and shallow with no zippers. Essentially from the "How to loose stuff while being active" school of design. There is a pocket at the bottom edge of the left leg, but again shallow with no zipper. I wouldn't trust these pockets with anything more valuable than a couple of zip ties. Actually, scratch that. Zip ties are kind of expensive. I wouldn't trust these pockets with anything. Liner quality seems good, pad is nice. Short material is light with some stretch. Cut is not bad. Construction seems good, no loose strings or poor stitching. But honestly wouldn't recommend for anything that involves even moderate bouncing around. Your either gonna wind up losing something or showing off more than you planned.
