2027 Kryo One - Great Pop, Better Balance, But An Unusual Sound

Overall, the 2027 Kryo One is a solid addition to the Louisville Slugger lineup. It has amazing pop right out of the wrapper, a noticeably more balanced swing weight than previous Kryos, and what feels like a very forgiving sweet spot. There are a few things worth knowing before purchasing, though. Weight and Balance – A Huge Improvement One of the biggest differences between the Kryo One and the 2024–2026 Kryos is the weight distribution. The older Kryos tend to be end-loaded and often weigh significantly more than advertised. For example, my daughter's 2025 Kryo 31" (-11) actually weighs 21.9 oz, making it practically a drop 9 instead of a drop 11! Our new 2027 Kryo One 31" (-10) weighed in approximately 0.4 oz over its advertised weight, which is much closer to spec. We intentionally purchased the drop 10 assuming it would swing similarly in overall weight to her outgoing 2025 drop 11, and that assumption turned out to be correct. Despite the similar actual weights, the Kryo One feels significantly more balanced and easier to swing because of the reduced end loading. My daughter did not complain of any issues with vibration or harsh feedback from the barrel. Performance – Excellent Pop and a Large Sweet Spot The bat has impressive pop right out of the wrapper. We've also seen slightly higher exit velocities compared to her 2025 Kryo, although I suspect much of that improvement comes from the more balanced swing weight rather than a significant increase in the bat's trampoline effect. My daughter also feels that the Kryo One has a noticeably larger sweet spot than her 2025 Kryo. Visually, the barrel looks bigger because of the more gradual taper made possible by the one-piece construction and lack of a two-piece connection point. I've seen other reviewers suggest that the Kryo One has a smaller sweet spot, but I wonder if some of that perception comes from the sound rather than the actual performance. The bat doesn't produce the same loud composite crack that people associate with a well-struck ball, even when contact is excellent. We haven't spent enough time hitting the Kryo 2 to make a meaningful comparison between the two models. Sound – My Biggest Complaint If there's one thing I dislike about this bat, it's the sound. Right out of the wrapper, the Kryo One sounds more like a metal pipe than a high-end composite bat. I jokingly told people it sounds like someone dropping a piece of Schedule 40 pipe on the concrete floor at Home Depot! The sound has improved somewhat as the bat has broken in, but it still doesn't have that satisfying composite crack of the original Kryo or other one-piece composites like the Easton Ghost Unlimited. This is mostly a personal preference, and the sound certainly doesn't seem to hurt performance, but it's something to be aware of if you love the sound of traditional composite bats. Appearance – A Hit with the 12U Girls Most of the girls on my daughter's 12U travel softball team absolutely love the pink and purple color scheme. Louisville Slugger did a great job with the graphics, and I suspect the colors will be especially popular with younger players. Value – Consider the DeMarini Vision If you're shopping for a Kryo or are limited to bats from Wilson-owned brands, I'd also recommend taking a look at the DeMarini Vision. The Vision is a slightly less expensive alternative worth considering. I don't think you'll be disappointed with the Kryo One, but given the price difference, the Vision deserves a look before making your final decision. Final Thoughts Overall, I'm impressed with the 2027 Louisville Slugger Kryo One. The improved balance, more accurate weight, excellent out-of-wrapper performance, and forgiving sweet spot make it a meaningful improvement over the older Kryos in several areas. The sound is definitely unusual, but that's a relatively minor complaint when the bat performs this well. We've also experienced fewer durability issues with Louisville Slugger bats compared to Easton and some other brands, so I'm hopeful the Kryo One continues that trend. If you're coming from a 2024 or 2025 Kryo, pay close attention to the actual weight and balance rather than just the advertised drop. You may find that moving from a drop 11 to a drop 10 gives you a similar overall weight with a noticeably better swing feel. I'll update this review as we put more swings on the bat, especially if we encounter any durability issues.
