Rated 5 out of 5 by from IT WORKS! Used it for the first time a week and a half ago. Husband and I were camping with the grandkids (8&4) about 40 minutes out of Boulder,CO. A bear we (later) nicknamed "Sandy" cause of the sand & mess he left behind, surprised us by climbing into the truck bed early one morning. We were able to scare him off but he came back even earlier the next morning! My husband was ready, especially since we had the kids with us. First spray he was about 35 feet away, then second spray was about 25 feet away. That bear couldn't get away fast enough & he didn't come back! My husband was fine, no back spray. And the kiddos thought Papa was a really brave guy. So did I.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Regular user (AK) I use these a lot, so will put this out there for the occasional users. If not packing a firearm or if uncomfortable with a firearm, this is a great option to have in bear country.Do not let these freeze. You will render them useless. On holsters- get one. You'll be glad you did.Do NOT stick these in your backpack or ruck. They need to be out and ready to use.If you are mindful enough, remember to hold your breath while drawing out your spray, so you don't incapacitate yourself. If you have respitory issues, this is imperative.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Did not need but glad I had. I was backpacking and getting my car stuck in sand had thrown be behind so I was hiking in the dark, alone. As I was coming over a ridge the light from my headlamp glowed back at me in the form of 5 pairs of eyes which were pointed in my direction. Instantly I reached for my bear spray while at the same time yelling and clanking my water bottles together. As the eyes scattered I turned on my brights on my headlamp to find that I had scared the crud out of a bunch of deer. Still it felt good knowing that I had what I needed if it wasn't deer. From then on I regularly practiced disengaging the safety (partially) and kept it close at all times.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not Only for BEARS! This is my second can of Bear Pepper Spray. I take the first can with me mountain biking on deep-wooded trails and have used it on snakes, a bob cat, a skunk, and a few vicious dogs, but no bears…yet. It worked every time! These reptiles and animals couldn't get away from me fast enough! As advertised, it will reach out about 30 feet and beyond in a cone shape. You don't have to be that accurate! I bought the second can for use around the house and when walking my dog in the neighborhood. Suggest you buy the holder for it also. It straps perfectly on my belt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't hunt north Jersey without it! Bear came right to my stand, looked up and started to stand up on its hind legs. Got within feet of my platform. One 3 second blast and he was out of there! Heard him stop about 40 yards away, trying to clear his throat and nose, then he took off.Very glad I had this with me.Carry it every time I'm in the woods, hunting or pre-season placing stands. One note: be sure which way the wind is blowing...A must-have for north Jersey hunting!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Effecive Used on large, vicious dogs during attacks. Extremely effective. They stopped dead in their tracks the moment it reached them. Have owned two and ready to buy number three. Never used on bear yet. Run in opposite direction after spraying. Even the slightest amount of back spray will cause you eye, lung, and nose irritation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beware Backspray This is a FOGGER. I would prefer a Streaming. I work Security, graveyard. Close Up and Personal bear encounters are common. My employer bought me this. It wasn't long before I had the opportunity to use it. I encountered a bear that had gotten way too close to other employees, as well as myself, and decided prevention is a good cure. He was about 15 feet away and I let him have it. It wasn't a self defense move it was a Get Out and Stay Out move. He ran away fast in the opposite direction. The FOG was thick so I didn't see how far he ran or how well I hit him. I just know he ran way, fast.Did I mention this is a Fogger? lol It has a nasty back spray affect and I soon realized I got a good dose myself. Not bad, but enough to make my eyes water and nose run and burn my throat. I wish I could find a Streaming, not Fogger but this will work in close encounters, just BeWare, you will get some on you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bear Spray I have not tried this on a bear, but a rather aggressive pit bull backs off in a heart beat. He sticks his head under my fence and tries to get to me. I had tried other sprays but this is the only one that is very effective. The orange color and the distance it sprays gives me confidence in where it is going. I have no doubt that a bear would react in the same way.
