I loved these racks for the first few weeks I had them. Worked well with a convertible system added to them and successfully carried two kayaks comfortably. However, the first time it rained the straps drew in so much water it was dripping and pooling in the seats. Depending on your door seal, it may not impact all cars but I was disappointed and am returning.

I have a bare roof 2014 Honda Accord. The car is too old to invest in a professionally installed rack. The price was right for this. At first I was surprised the straps go through the car. It took ~45 minutes to install, get it set correctly on the roof and tightened. I had anticipated leaving it on the roof for the summer, but went through a car wash and discovered because the straps go through the door frame it will leak! I took the rack off knowing a storm was coming. Frustrated I considered just returning it. Well I'm glad I didn't! Since I knew the location on the roof it was super simple to reinstall. I left the J-hooks on the rack when I took it off/back on so no need to mess with them. I comfortably drove 65mph on the highway with 2 kayaks and nothing budged. After some trial and error and thinking this was a poor choice I can say now I am beyond pleased with the purchase. I had previously used foam blocks, but needed to upgrade in order to transport 2 kayaks.
Easy and safe for cars without rails to transport a kayak. Tie downs are sold separately.

I bought this roof rack to help transport my 13.5 ft kayak and my daughter's 6ft kayak. Before I had just mine and transported it with cheap styrofoam blocks that worked, but made me very nervous while driving. But once I needed to transport 2, I didn't trust the styrofoam ones. This purchase is exactly what I needed! Easy to install, very sturdy, and helped transport both kayaks with no problem what so ever! Very happy with my purchase.

Bought the Malone Versarail and used it for 2 weeks before the straps failed last night. My entire kayak and rack flew off into traffic on the interstate going 60MPH - not even fast. Kayak and rack are both ruined. Very unhappy and afraid to ever use again.

Heat and this roof rack do not mix. It will damage your car due to the plastic melting. Invest in a Yakima or something similar. You get what you pay for.

I bought these for my 2012 Dodge Caliber. Easy to install. Fit nicely. My car is small so people hit their heads on the straps in the backseat. But easy to take off when needed.
After looking around for a while for a rack that would fir my car, I finally bought the Malone. I wasn't keen on the straps at first but the make and model of may car does not allow the traditional hooks to hold the rack. I have had my kayak out only a few times but had it on the highway at speeds of 75. The kayak nor the rack budged. I was surprised how well the suction cups held. I use tie downs to hold the yak but for a 13 foot, 75 pound yak, you should make sure it's secure. You can buy a much more expensive cross bars but why bother when the Malone stands up and does the job.

I purchased this roof rack early last year to transport my 60 lb kayak. My first use of the roof rack it was around 60 degrees Fahrenheit. I had the rack on for approximately one day to transport my kayak and removed it due to the rattling noise it was making. The second time I placed the roof rack on my car I had it on for four days with use each day to transport my kayak. Temperatures during this use exceeded 100 degrees. I returned home from my trip and removed the rack, the rack had damaged the roof of my car leaving brown circles where the suction cups had been. Attached are photos of my car. I contacted Malone to help me resolve the issue, the representative I spoke to said that I was not the only person with the same complaint. She even mentioned one customer in Florida the roof rack had melted onto his car. I went back and forth with the representative for a little over two months, she claimed that the company recreated the issue on one of their cars and had it buffed out to fix it. I suggested recalling the product so that this would not happen to any future customers but that was not an option for them. This company is still selling a product with full knowledge that it can quickly damage the roof of your car especially if the coloring of your car is light. Save yourself the trouble of having to buff out your car by just simply not purchasing this product.

Didn't want to spend for the big name roof racks. Bought this for my Nissan Sentra. Easy to install and adjust. Paired with a soft cargo topper bag and 1500 miles on I-95 at highway speeds and rain with zero issues. No rattles, whistles or slippage. Perfect for the occasional uses i will have. A bargain.

These are probably the best universal type roof racks you will be able to find. I shopped extensively for racks that would be able to stand up to transporting a heavy kayak over thousands of miles. Other brand name racks like Thule or Yakima would have cost 4 to 5 times the cost of these racks. These were the only ones that seemed to be able to perform just as well as the higher priced options. We used these on a 2016 Honda CRV (does not have a rain gutter or lip to catch other types of attachment systems) to transport the kayak from NY to Florida through a major southern blizzard with these racks on the car. The racks and kayak did not budge an inch. The ratchets seemed to work fine. I cinched them up as tightly as possible and then tied a half hitch as insurance. We kept the kayak on the rack with some budget ratchet tie downs from Harbor Freight. The fact that the tie downs for the rack do go through the interior of the car may put some people off but this also make the racks very secure. I also want to add that these did not mar the finish or cause any scratches or dents to the vehicle. I highly recommend these if you are having difficulty trying to find racks that work with your vehicle.

excellent quality product. fits sedan cars with plain roof. good grip of stands on the roof. the only concern is that it may leave marks from grip on the roof. finally i went with sportsrack item that had better design for stands of the bars.

I bought this to take my 62lb Kayak from NC to Michigan to visit family. Easy to set up on my Escape's roof w/o rails. Used 2 racket ties and 2 bungee ties on front and back of kayak. No issues traveling over 1000 miles each way. Some noise once I got up to 70mph but that was it
