Great Design But Poles Break

The tent's pole snapped on its 41st night of use, with a second crack developing. There are a lot of great things about this tent, but that is simply far too soon for a significant break. My use is backcountry backpacking and canoe camping, but I take very good care of my gear and my poles in particular: always on a pack exterior, never under pressure within a pack. On the one hand, I think the shape, size, features, weight, and value of this tent are great. Until now, I've loved it. But if you have to be worried about whether your poles are going to have multiple breaks in the middle of a trip before you've even used it 50 nights, that undoes all the strong points. I'm not sure if this issue is a matter of low quality materials or if the geometry of the tent design exerts too much pressure on the poles.

The 2016 Verson Has Been Great

As I write, it is 2024. I have had the tent since 2016. I use it as a 1-person tent. I average about 45 days a year in this tent. It is not uncommon for me to pitch it, and leave it set-up, for 14 days at a time...this long UV-exposure use is hard on tents. I have had zero problems with the tent. Never got wet, never blown away, no repairs, zippers are still 100%. It is, of course, pretty darn snug if used by two people...but, that's the nature of 2-person backpacking tents, regardless of make/model.

Great Tent With One Significant Problem

I have owned several Marmot Tungsten tents over the years. I am a big fan of them. Unfortunately this version has a small section of zipper on the fly that serves no practical purpose. It does however allow water to run down and drip on the inner tent. I own two of these tents and I have determined it is definitely a design flaw due to that zipper. In moderate rain you will get water dripping on to the body of the tent and pooling on the floor. Very disappointing.
