Waterproof construction keeps feet dry in wet conditions
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looked Good, But Fell Apart I bought these for my son and me to use during a Colorado hiking trip. My son's size 13 fit him well, while my size 12 were a bit tight, especially during downhill movement. By the third day of general hiking, both of our brand new, top of the line, hiking boots were falling apart. Both pairs were coming apart where the rubber met the actual foot covering material. Needless to say, they were no longer waterproof, and we were both very disappointed. Dick's took them back without much question, but I would absolutely not recommend these boots to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very comfortable I’ve only worn the boots a few times so I can’t comment on durability but comfort was my main concern, especially when driving. We recently purchased a Jeep Wrangler and outfitted it for a lot of off road adventure. We live in northern NY (North of Lake Placid) so we do quite a bit of driving to get to the roads less travelled and high tops irritate my Achilles tendon area so I’ve been searching for a boot that will give me ankle support for hiking and not aggravate the back of my legs. So far these have fit the bill very well. They’re so comfortable there wasn’t even a break in period. They were good right out of the box.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Water Resistant Not Waterproof I want to start by saying that I’m not unhappy with these boots. But I’m not entirely satisfied. I work in the lawn care industry. This includes applying fertilizers and liquid weed controls while walking through rain and/or dew soaked grass for eight to ten hours per day. These boots are incredibly comfortable, I have had no break in period, the have a bounce to them that helps to keep me moving, and they have a wonderful cushioned insole. However, they’re advertised as waterproof and this is most definitely not the case with pair I’ve received. I would describe them as water resistant to a point. I start work at 6:00AM and by 7:30, my feet are soaking wet. I’ve had to start bringing extra pairs of socks to work so I can have some dryness throughout the day. I’m not sure if maybe they’re faulty, I know not all boots can handle the all-day onslaught of water. But I purchased these because they were advertised as “waterproof”. But from what I’ve experienced, they’re just slightly resistant.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Waterproof I have purchased these Merrill boots and the waterproofing starts breaking down after 6 months. Then they leak like a sieve. And it's not just my boots; I know other Merrill owners that the same things happen to. Merrill really needs to fix their QC control problems regarding waterproofing. The boots are comfortable, but they are dreadful in any puddle or wet weather.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mother of All Boots I like the fit of these boots and I love the traction on the sole. The “waterproof “ of these boots leaves something to be desired. Wore them out in a light rain and my feet didn’t stay dry. Should be able to handle a little rain, if it says waterproof right in the title.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Waterproof I don't see how they can get away with calling these boots waterproof. The first time I wore these boots walking in wet grass my feet stayed dry, the second time the tops of my toes were wet within twenty minutes. I'm not talking about walking through puddles, just wet grass tall enough to brush against the toes of the boot as I walked. If you plan on doing a lot of walking in these boots you will probably want to get better insoles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Merrill hiking boots Here's the deal....I went to the Dick's store in the Willowbrook, NJ shopping mall and needed to replace the 5 year old Merrell's that I owned. I asked for my size and they fit great so I asked if the store could give me the $20 discount available if I ordered these boots on-line. They said no so I left the store and ordered the boots on-line and saved $20 + shipping. Didn't quite make sense, whatever, thanks

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very supportive waterproof boot I bought these in the granite color 1 month ago. I needed a waterproof boot for hikes on snowy trails, dew covered grass and stepping across shallow creeks. Debated between these and the GoreTex version. As soon as I got them I put them on and stood in 5 inch deep water in our pool for 5 minutes - no leaks, dry feet! In the right size, these boots are very supportive and comfortable out of the box. However, I'm my experience these run 1/2 size too small. I measured my foot size at Dick's and tried on several pair. With sweatsocks my feet measure just under 10.5 US in D width. The 10.5 medium crowded my toes (too short). The 11 US medium was perfect. I just finished a pair of 3 hour hikes in Colorado on dry, rocky trails where these boots provided a nimble sure-footed feel going both up and down steep terrain. My only complaint about the Moab2 Mid is the tread pattern. It's exactly the same as my 5 -year old Moab Ventilator low tops. While providing good grip on wet or dry surfaces, its fine pattern clings to damp or wet dirt and makes a mess indoors like no other shoe or boot I've owned. I've learned to remove and leave them in the garage. Even with that the comfort, support and quality of Merrell in general, and the Moab Lone in particular keep me coming back for more.
