Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great all purpose shoe I have worn Merrell shoes for a couple of years now and they fit my foot and my needs very well. These shoes are durable and are great all purpose shoes. They hold up well to hiking as well as exposure to the concrete jungle. They are comfortable and break in quickly. I would award 5 stars except the construction of the heal area is a bit too padded for my taste and I dislike the slick nylon inner surface of shoes these days. I miss the days of leather backs that don't wear out so quickly. This shoe is just like all the others so it's not a knock on the Merrell Moab hiker.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from REALLY wanted to like these... but... I REALLY wanted to like these — got a great deal, they seem well made, comfortable, I like the styling and color, nice thick sole... but... there's just too much slippage in the heel. I don't know if it's due to stiffness in the thick sole or what. Over tightening the laces helped a little but not enough. Plus doing so made them uncomfortably tight. A review on Amazon thought the heel slippage was caused by the new model reducing the number of lace eyelet sets to 5 (the previous model had 6 sets). I have 2 other similar pairs of shoes (one is the merrell moab rover) and both have 5 sets of eyelets but no heel slippage. So I doubt the number of eyelets is causing the heel to slip but clearly something is different. It's not as if I'm wearing thin socks either. They're basic 100% cotton Hanes socks but I also tried some nice Fits wool hiking socks and my heels still slip. Comparing the rover to the ventilator on my feet, I can see that the back of the rover tapers in and wraps over the back of my heel, locking it down. Whereas the ventilator appears to rely more on the inner padding to do this but it fails to lock it down securely. The back of the ventilator needs to taper in more like the rover to solve the heel slippage imo. Bummer :/

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These Trekers will Take you Everywhere These are my second pair, as I literally worn-out my first pair! They were put to the test in Israel, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Bali and Greece. Can you say "hot" and "humid", but the Moab Ventilators worked like a champ! The break-in period was nominal, and I appreciated the fact that they dried out fairly quickly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No break in required - high quality product I require a wide hiking shoe and have worn Moab Rover mids for years with great success. I was looking for a low cut hiking shoe for warm weather use but didn't care for the low cut Moab Rover colors. I tried the Original Moab ventilator low cuts in my usual wide width but found them to be slightly too narrow. I stumbled upon the new Moab 2 ventilator and assumed that they would be just like the original - boy was I pleasantly surprised. The Moab 2 ventilators have the tried and true vibram sole which I absolutely love. The leather/suede materials seem to be higher quality than the original Moab. Also the colors appear richer and blend better. The toe box offers slightly more room than the original Moab too. The insole is removable and offers plenty of room for orthotics. Overall, I would say that every change that was made improves the overall shoe. The shoe requires no break in period and is ready to go right out of the box. I have found my new favorite pair of hiking shoes and highly recommend them.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible quality As a professional photographer i rely on my equipment, and these are a fail. I have 5 different pairs of Merrells. All the others are great, but these are terrible. Stitching in left shoe is trimmed poorly, and the shoe actually seems to be crooked. Painful to wear after an hour or so. Maybe next new pair will be better, but for now wearing an older pair as they don't hurt my feet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid hiking shoes I bought these before leaving to hike on the Appalachian Trail. I wore them for about 1 month (mid February to mid March) hiking on the AT from Springer Mountain in Georgia up into the GSMNP - hiked about 200 miles over multiple mountains in all types of weather. The shoes were comfortable and served me well, now I am using the same pair doing yardwork and gardening at home. I bought another identical pair and will use them for future hikes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Over 1,000 miles I can't review how these are for hiking. I bought them for work because I was tired of buying shows every 4-6 months. It's been a year and a half now, and according to my fitbit over 1,000 miles. Shoes are just now starting to wear thin and needing to be replaced. I'll be sticking with Merrell for years to come. Only downside is they don't give much traction on wet shop floors, which is not a huge thing to me. I can't say how they would be on a wet trail or wet rocks. But I replaced them with the waterproof ones. Very durable shoe.
