I love the Moab 3. I am on my third pair. The extra width is great; most hiking shoes are too narrow for my foot. Additionally, I enjoy the fact that it is not waterproof. Waterproofness works both ways; get your feet wet crossing a stream or simply sweating on a summer hike and your feet may not dry out for the rest of the day unless you are wearing a ventilated shoe instead of a waterproof pair. I live in the Chihuahuan Desert and ventilation is important. Waterproof shoes make my feet sweat, but some shoe manufacturers require buyers to purchase a waterproof shoe to get a wide shoe. The only caveat to my glowing review of this shoe is that the material that pads the achilles tendon is thin and will wear through before the rest of the shoe is worn out. This exposes a sharp edged heel cup stiffener that cuts my sock and skin. The shoe would be perfect for me if Merrell addresses that area of the shoe.
