I chose Merrell over other brands because they make good quality and well designed boots. I have peroneal tendonitis on one leg, so I need ankle support for walking. They are comfortable right out of the box. I also like that you can put your own orthotics inside. The ones they come with are fairly good, but I need more arch support. I haven't used them in wet conditions yet so I can't comment on how waterproof they are.
