After One Year With The Speed Solo Mid Waterproof
I got these boots on April 30th 2025. Mine are in the “smoke” colorway which is not currently available. For the price- I am disappointed in the comfort of the shoes though I use them often. They are more for fashion than function Pros: They are stylish and cute, can be taken from the trail to the street without seeming out of place. The soles are extra sharp and grippy for uphill hiking. Over the year these shoes have held up remarkably well. The soles show almost no wear. Although some of the letters on the insole did peel off quickly, within the first few wears. But the outside looks great. they resist dirt and mud. I wear them almost every weekend, on paved walks or swamp strolls. They are durable but I don’t abuse them. Cons: They are “waterproof”… unless you get any water over the top of the shoe, near the tongue and laces, then you’ll have soggy feet all day. I expected “waterproof boot” to mean I’d be good up to my ankle but that’s not the case. I use them more for muddy swampy pathways but not for walking in a stream or deep puddle. This was the biggest disappointment for me. Also these boots make my feet soooo hot. They don’t breathe due to the waterproofing and are the warmest shoes I own. the round, thick laces come untied all the time with a typical bunny-ear tie. Personally this takes away some style points for me because I just think the double-knot is not as cute. My biggest issue with these is the width of the sole. The bottom of the sole fans out and makes the shoe so much wider, and when walking on an uneven trail, like a multi use trail with horse tracks or tire impressions, it feels unstable. The shoe is too wide to comfortably navigate through rocky or rough terrain like that and strains the ankle. I think these would be great for snowy conditions and cold weather but I don’t recommend these waterproof boots as the everyday hiking shoe especially if you are in a warmer climate. I had high expectations for such a well-loved brand of hiking shoes!

Great For Winter
My intention was for these to be general hiking boots. They’re way too warm for that, but have made excellent winter boots/winter hiking boots. Waterproofing is great, they’re very warm, great traction— especially during a really tough Northeast winter!

Comfortable, Sturdy And Stylish
I bought these for a trip to Costa Rica where I hiked in muddy and damp conditions and they held up great. They were comfortable, my feet stayed dry, and they were easy to clean up. I also like that they look more stylish than your average hiking boot.
